“Locker room. Now.”
My stomach flipped.
We were in a public gym, with bright lights and no dark corners, and he was still choosing to take it further.
I pushed off the wall, my heart racing, trying very hard not to grin like an idiot.
Yeah, I’d wanted to shake him up. I hadn’t expected him to drag me into the fire with him.
And God, I wanted him to.
Chapter Thirteen
Quinn
The locker room was busier than before. Two men stood under the showers, and another was towelling off by the sinks. Steam hung thick under harsh fluorescent lights.
Max didn’t hesitate. He stripped with clean, efficient movements, no performance, no hesitation, as though me watching him didn’t register.
Which meant it definitely did.
I did the same, only less smoothly, because it was difficult to act casual when the guy I’d been winding up was five feet away and very naked.
Not to mention very hard.
So yes, I stared, and Max didn’t look at me once.
We stepped under separate showerheads. I flipped the lever, and hot water hit my shoulders. Steam thickened. Someone behind us was arguing about football, completely oblivious to us. I tipped my head back under the spray and let the water run down my neck, over my chest. It grounded me for all of half a second.
Then I looked at Max.
He faced the wall, one hand braced against the tile, water trickling down the lines of his back, his jaw tight.
I bit back a grin.
Oh, he’s feeling this.
I leaned my shoulder against the wall and let my gaze drag, not even bothering to be subtle about it. His eyes shifted toward me.
I mouthed, Hi.
His nostrils flared, and he looked away again. The water roared between us. I adjusted the temperature slightly and let out a quiet breath, running my hands over my chest, my belly, lower, lower…
Max’s head snapped in my direction, and I reached back to slide my fingers through my crease, not looking away, watching his eyes widen.
“You have no idea what you’re inviting, do you?” he murmured.
My heart was pounding so hard I was sure he could hear it.
I speared him with my gaze. “Why don’t you stop pretending I don’t know what I’m asking for?”
The men near us finished up, one by one, then reached for towels. Locker doors opened and closed. Their chatter filled the air.
My pulse quickened. Steam curled thicker. The locker room grew quieter, until finally, the door shut behind the last guy.
The only sound was the water hitting the tiled floor.
Steam drifted between us, softening the harshness of the lights, turning the tiled room into something smaller, more contained.
