Maya smiled. “That sounds like you.”

“I’ll be honest, I was starting to worry about you,” Sam murmured. I stared at him, and he shrugged. “Seems to me that people go into this kinda thing to have fun, and it didn’t appear—to me, at least—that you were having any. Fun, that it.” His lips twitched. “Though I’m sure you were getting some of your itches scratched.”

I chuckled. “Yeah, that part wasn’t in short supply.” Grant had loved to fuck.

“Then let’s hope you find someone new who scratches all of them,” Jess declared.

I hesitated.

Sam narrowed his gaze. “Or have you already found him?”

I laughed. “It’s not like that. Well, not right now. I suppose it might be.”

God, I hoped.

“There’s someone I saw at the club. I haven’t spoken to him yet.”

Maya gaped. “Who are you, and what have you done with our Quinn?”

I liked the our.

I smiled. “I noticed him because he wasn’t trying to be noticed.”

Maya pointed her spoon at me. “That’s how you end up in trouble.”

“Possibly,” I agreed. “But it feels like the good kind.” I glanced at Sam. “But you’re right. It’s supposed to be fun. And that’s why I’m going back to Obsidian.” I squared my shoulders. “I’m going to have fun.”

Sam’s eyes twinkled. “Good for you.”

Silence settled, not awkward but thoughtful.

“Text if you need us,” Maya said eventually.

“I will.”

“And Quinn?” Sam added. “You didn’t do anything wrong before. But I’m glad you waited this time.”

So was I.

The second time I stepped into Obsidian, I was ready to sign on the dotted line. I’d read the rules, listened carefully, and asked the kind of questions that proved I was paying attention. I’d already cleared the age requirement—eighteen-plus, clearly stated, no drama—which meant no one was watching me for legality, just for how I behaved.

I handed over my signed paperwork, collected instructions for payments, and I was in.

Only one problem.

He wasn’t.

One glance around the main room revealed Mr Tall Dark and Dangerous was nowhere to be seen.

Damn.

There was plenty going on, and I could’ve stayed to talk to guys, watch scenes, ask more questions…

But I didn’t.

Maybe it was childish, or even obsessive, but I’d been thinking about the guy with the tattoo and the smoking hot eyes ever since my first visit. It wasn’t just how he looked. His manner, his way of scanning the room, the stillness of him…

It intrigued the fuck out of me.
