“For sure. I just want you to be safe and if anything weird goes on, don’t hesitate to call me, okay?”

I stare at him and then move my eyes back to Marie.

What was going on here?

“Yes. Stay close to your friends and call us if you need anything.” Marie says after about three minutes of silence.

“Umm. Okay.” I say because they were acting so freaking weird.

We all looked at each other for a moment before my phone beeped again.

“Okayyy. Well, I have to head out. I won’t be late.” I say before I go search for Ryan.

Walking through the house, I find him sitting in the living room watching a program on the TV.

“Hey buddy.” I say, crouching beside him.

He turns his head and his eyes light up. “Hey Rave.”

“Be good tonight, okay. I won’t be home until later.” I say as I pull him into a hug.

He wraps his tiny arms around me. “Okay. I love you.”

“I love you too bud.” I say and press a kiss to the top of his head.

The drive was quick, and I couldn’t contain my excitement at being able to be around the atmosphere of the fair.

The smell of popcorn, the sound of laughter and joy from the younger ones, and the feeling of happiness. It was unstoppable.

Back home, we had a little fair that came every year. But, it was super small and only had one or two rides. Nothing like Summers End.

Driving down the road, my heart skips a beat as I see the Ferris wheel in the view.

Multiple cars were in front of me, all ready to turn into the parking lot in the dirt.

My palms were sweaty as I clenched the steering wheel, as the sound of Edwyn Collins fill my car.

My phone buzzes with an incoming call.

Grabbing it, and putting it on speaker phone, I answer.

“Hello?”

“Hey boo. Where are you?” Willow says.

“I’m pulling in now, where did you park?”

“I’m near the front.” she says and I could hear the sounds in the background as she talked.

“Okay, I’m parking now.” I say as I follow the man in the vest to where he pointed at.

“What car are you in?”

I put my car in the spot and put it in park.

“A red Chevrolet.”
