“My sounds are hot?” Clay asked.

“Yeah. I wanna hear more of them.” August glanced behind him to catch a glimpse of people gathered on his deck. “You know, we don’t have to go back to my house yet. Are you warm enough with that sweatshirt? We could stay out here for a bit, if you wanna…”

“If I want to what?” Clay asked.

If this was any other person, August would just ask if he wanted to hook up. Offer to blow him against a tree or feel up his ass a little, let things shift naturally. But he didn’t want to do that with Clay. That purring noise had him half hard already, and even if he didn’t know how Clay was doing it, he wanted to hear it again. He couldn’t scare him off.

“Just hang out and talk, I guess?” August said, rubbing the back of his neck. “It’s quieter out here. I wouldn’t mind getting to know you a bit.”

“It is quiet.”

“Unless your friends are looking for you? Who are you here with again?”

“I came by myself. From Zengi."

August laughed. “I love this. You’re fun to talk to.”

Clay stepped closer. “I enjoy talking to you too. I knew I would, once I found you.”

The woods settled around them as the breeze slowed. Even the stream seemed to quiet its rapid flow until the only sounds nearby were the faint murmurs of the party a hundred feet away. August shifted his weight, hoping to lean in for a kiss. Without thinking, his hands ended up on Clay’s hips, trailing around the back of his body to the top of his ass.

“You were looking for me?” August asked.

Clay nodded, closing the gap between them to press his face into August’s neck, breathing in. “My whole life.”

“Whoa,” August said, surprised by the comment, but too turned on to care. He moaned at the feel of Clay’s skin. “Oh, that’s—how did you get your skin so smooth?”

“How did you get yours so furry?” Clay asked, his voice muffled.

Clay pressed forward, pushing them up against a tree. August was hard, but confused—the guy was wicked hot, but a little weird. But when Clay pressed himself against August’s growing bulge, he threw caution to the wind. Weird was fine. Weird could be hot. In fact, weird was hot.

As Clay continued breathing against August’s neck, something feather-light skimmed the back of his leg. He kicked his foot, assuming it was just a stick. But then it happened again, the movements more frantic, and it wrapped around his knee.

"Aah!" August jumped so hard he nearly lost his footing. “What the hell is that?” His heart hammered as he searched the ground for a snake or broken branch or some horrifying Halloween decoration.

Clay's eyes widened as he watched. His breathing picked up and the shimmering scales on his forehead reappeared.

“I apologize,” Clay said. No hint of the purr that time.

“For what?”

A gray rope hung from Clay’s hand. He was petting it anxiously, eyes glued to the forest floor. “It does that sometimes. It’s not sentient, really, but it… I have read about this phenomenon with bond mates, though I have never experienced it myself.”

August chuckled, but at this point, with the guy’s aggressive sniffing and strange comments, the alien thing was getting old. If the guy didn’t want to suck his dick, he could just say that. He reached out and grabbed the rope to prove that whatever weird prop Clay had attached to himself wasn’t nearly as convincing as he thought. But almost immediately, August realized it wasn’t a rope at all. It was… warm, and not from sitting inside Clay’s pants. It was alive. Pulsing and moving, the surface of it shifting beneath August’s fingers, muscle flexing under dull gray skin.

August looked up slowly. “Dude.”

Clay winced, his scales shimmering.

“This is attached to you?”

“Yes.”

“Like, permanently?”

“Yes.” Clay turned his body, lifting the back of the hoodie to show a strip of skin. The tail was attached seamlessly. The top was lined with striped ridges, and August reached out to touch one, rubbing his fingers along the bumps. Clay shuddered as another deep purr echoed between them.

“Holy shit. You’re an actual alien.”
