Somewhere in front of him, a twig snapped. Plenty of animals lived out in these woods, but that sound was of something much heavier. Something more cautious, like it was hunting. A bear, or maybe a cougar? August tucked himself back into his pants and turned around slowly, scanning his eyes through the dense trees. His breath caught when he spotted something large and gray ducking behind a thick trunk.

“Hello?” he called out, his voice shaky from both the cold and the fear creeping up his spine. There was no response. “Hello? Is someone there?”

He shifted to the side, changing his angle just enough to catch sight of someone hiding. Shirtless, wearing a killer alien costume. His skin was painted gray, realistic horns curved back from his forehead, and a silver spacesuit was peeled down to his waist, showing off his lean arms and torso. August only got a glimpse before the guy darted behind the tree again, but it was enough to know that guy was hot as hell.

But how did he get all the way out here? And why? It was a rowdy party, sure. People were drinking excessively, and August was pretty sure he heard someone dare someone else to jump off the roof onto the trampoline. But it was freezing. Nobody would strip down and disappear into the woods for no reason.

Unless… August cracked a smile in the alien’s direction. Maybe there was a reason. And maybe that reason was that the guy saw August head out the back door and wanted to meet up for a quick forest rendezvous.

“Hey!” he said.

The guy didn’t say anything back, but he did lean a bit further around the tree. Really leaning into this alien costume, August thought. That was fine. A little roleplay didn’t scare him.

“You okay over there, Mr. Alien?”

The man stepped out into the open. Scales along his shoulders and forehead glittered in the moonlight. He loved glitter and jewels and guys who leaned into the softer side of things, especially if they maintained a hard body with all those muscles. August wiped his mouth on his sleeve. No matter who this guy was, August, and his dick, were on board.

If he could get him to talk, that was. For a fleeting moment, August worried he’d misjudged the situation. He wasn’t the brightest bulb in the gym, but he was good with people and understood the look of someone who wanted to be left alone. That wasn’t the vibe he was getting from this mysterious stranger. In fact, despite the guy’s hesitance, August felt a strange pull towards him.

Following a worn path through the leaves, August stepped closer, smiling pleasantly. Smoke drifted off the breeze and August lifted his chin.

“Do you smell that?” he asked.

The guy said nothing. He looked nervous, with his long fingers twisted together in front of his body. Something about him had August feeling unsettled as he approached. Probably the contacts he was wearing that covered the whites of his eyes, making them completely black, like something out of a horror movie.

Despite that, though, August was inexplicably drawn to him.

“Did you leave the party and get lost?” August tried again. They were standing just a foot apart, and he could see the guy shivering. “You okay? You look really cold.”

The guy took a quick, shaky breath before he finally spoke. “I am c-cold.”

“He can talk!” August said, delightedly. He unzipped his sweatshirt and draped it over the guy’s shoulders, pulling the hood up. Once in place, he patted the guy’s head, his hand bumping against the fake horn beneath the fabric.

The guy sucked in a breath before making a soft purring noise. “Bond—"

“Did you get lost? Let’s go back to the party. I’m August, by the way. I live here.”

“C-Clay,” the guy said.

“Your name is Clay?”

Clay nodded. “Yes.”

“Happy to have you, Clay. Who did you come with?”

“By myself,” Clay said. “To find my bond mate—”

August let out a loud laugh. “You are dedicated to this costume, man. Accent and everything. I love it.”

They walked towards the house together, slowly, because Clay struggled to walk with his suit unzipped.

“Some costumes are hard to walk in, I guess,” August said. He grinned at Clay, grateful he’d chosen his sheep costume now that he’d given away his hoodie. He brushed the shoulder of the warm, fluffy, fake lamb’s wool he was wearing, then winked in Clay’s direction. “Not mine, but some.”

“Mine isn’t a costume,” Clay said. “I just took off the top because I got damp while I walked.” He slowed, tugging the silver suit back over his hips before stepping closer to August.

“You still cold?” August asked, taking a risk by draping his arm over Clay’s shoulder. His hand reached up to cup the back of his head, fingers dancing over the hood. A soft whimper escaped Clay before he melted into another purr. “Man, that sound is great. Alien sounds. It’s hot.”

Clay stilled, pulling his hood over the scales on his forehead. They weren’t sparkly anymore, which August found disappointing. And confusing.
