Telling me not to panic would only make me panic faster. Fortunately, panicking was the last thing on my mind. I could only think of one thing, one person. Vayn. And his throat. I couldn’t tear my gaze from it.

“Don’t panic,” he said again. “But, your fangs have come in.”

His throat looked so sexy. I just wanted to nibble on it. Wait. Did he say my fangs had come in? Blinking, I pulled myself from the haze I was getting lost in and stared at him.

“Fangs?” I squeaked, shocked.

Swallowing again, he nodded. “Fangs.”

My gaze dropped to his throat. I had fangs. He had a throat. I wanted a bite. Unable to stop myself, I leaned closer to him. My eyes drifted shut as I inhaled his scent. Fire and cinnamon. That was what he smelled like. It was my new favorite scent. My claws dug into the mattress, shredding the sheet.

“Destiny,” he whispered.

I opened my eyes to find him closer to me. “Yes,” I answered, voice low, sultry.

I’d never heard myself sound like that before.

“How do you feel?” he asked.

“Hot,” I replied as I shrugged out of my shirt.

I tossed it to the floor. Clad in my leggings and black lacey bra, I stared at Vayn. My shadows moved closer to me, kneeling on the bed, surrounding me.

“Don’t touch her,” Vayn ordered.

They stopped just shy of doing that. I pouted. Why would he issue an order like that? I wanted to be touched. I needed to be touched. I needed... him. If they couldn’t touch me, then he’d have to do it.

I found myself moving to my hands and knees. It felt like I was moving in slow motion. Or perhaps I was moving like a predator whose gaze had just landed on its prey. A smile curved across my face. That would make Vayn my prey.

And I was ready to pounce.

Chapter Twelve

Destiny

––––––––

My prey looked good enough to lick, to drink, to fuck.

“Destiny,” Vayn started, watching me carefully. “Let me explain to you what’s happening.”

I needed no explanation. I didn’t want to talk. I only wanted to taste... him. I pounced, and he didn’t stop me. Straddling him, I shoved him down on the bed and pinned his hands above his head.

He was now at my mercy. It thrilled me to have this powerful Fallen in my grasp. I stared down at him as his shadows knelt on the bed, surrounding us. Their growls permeated the air. But these growls were different.

It was like I could feel the rumble of their growls against my skin. My center was pressed against Vayn’s jogging pants-clad cock, his very hard cock. And I didn’t have to imagine how it looked. I already knew my Guardian was working with a monster. I’d seen him stroke it as he’d whispered my name.

It was more than clear that he wanted me. And the wetness making my panties damp was proof that I wanted him. It was time we did something about that. He didn’t try to free himself from my hold. Instead, his eyes seemed to glow as he watched me, still looking concerned. I wanted to wipe that look of concern out of his eyes.

Better yet, I’d grind it out of his eyes. I had all this ass. It would be a waste not to use it. I rolled my hips slowly, rubbing my heat against his hardness. His shiver made me shiver as he closed his eyes and groaned. The moans that erupted from his shadows had me ready to strip out of the rest of my clothes.

“We need to talk, Destiny,” Vayn uttered through clenched teeth before opening his eyes to look up at me. “We must talk now.”

Why did he keep saying that? We’d talked enough over the past three months. It was time for action. I wanted nothing more than to ignore his words and let my instincts guide me to seize what I desired, but his gaze held me captive. He truly wanted to talk. I hesitated, indecision clouding my mind as the shadows around us growled their approval of my movements.

It felt like they were encouraging me with their noises, and it was almost like I could feel the vibrations from them against my skin. With Vayn’s large frame trapped beneath me, the evidence of his arousal was right there for me to feel, yet he still wanted to talk. Talk about what? Unless...

Did he not want this? Could he not feel the pull I was feeling? Was his aversion to humans that deep, that strong, that all-consuming? Was he... was he... planning to reject me? Tears sprang to my eyes.
