He handed me a red vial with dark liquid in it. I brought the vial to my nose and sniffed. It smelled sweet.

“I’ve had a witch create a sleeping potion for you. You’re to always carry it around your neck. That way, if you ever dream travel somewhere and get stuck, you can take a sip of the potion, fall asleep, and get out of there.”

I know I should be thankful for this potion. I sure as hell need it. But I’m disappointed in him and myself.

“You’ve lost hope of me learning to teleport out by myself, haven’t you?” I asked.

Sure, I’d failed to teleport out each time I’d tried. But it sucked that he was giving up on me.

“I could never lose hope in you, Destiny,” Vayn assured me. “However, hunters are targeting our kind more. Two students from another campus were kidnapped last week. Fangs, Fae, and Fury academy is on lockdown as we speak. Even supernaturals who attend human universities are being targeted. I can’t risk you getting taken. I would lose my shit if something happened to you.”

And just like that, he was forgiven. It didn’t take much to keep me happy. Just food, good dick, and praises. I was still waiting for the good dick.

“Awww. My guardian is worried about me,” I teased.

For the first time in my life, I watched my guardian’s cheeks heat in embarrassment. He was adorable. Totally fucking adorable. After clearing his throat, he told me to lie down on the bed. I did as I was told. He moved to lie down beside me.

“Tonight, we’re going to see if you can take others with you when you dream travel,” Vayn instructed as his shadows began returning to him so they could go with us.

I was able to take anything I held in my hand or had on my person with me when I dream traveled. I was confident I could take my guardian along for the ride. The problem was, usually, I traveled to him. Would I be able to dream travel without him being my destination? He seemed confident in me, so I would try to be confident also.

“Location?” I asked.

“Let’s keep it simple. Try taking us to your apartment.”

“No one is there. Don’t I have to travel to a place where someone is located at and awake?” Since I was dream traveling, I needed to go to someone awake. If I was dream walking, I could visit the dreams of others.

“Beastie is there. I just dropped him off. Don’t worry. He’s on a leash. And I’ve ordered him not to leave your bathroom.”

“Aww, you left poor Beastie alone.”

“He won’t be alone for long. You ready?” he asked. “We should hurry and go to him before he comes to you.”

I chuckled. I knew Vayn hated that Beastie had a way of finding me no matter where I was. Since my first encounter with the pup, he’d been showing up at unexpected places, seeking my attention. He once appeared in my lap while I was in class. Luckily, no one saw him. I shoved him into my duffle and left the room before anyone could notice.

Sometimes, I’d awaken in bed to him snoring next to me. According to Charm, Beastie had claimed me, thus making me a partial owner of the little hellhound and officially unable to escape his attention. Which basically meant, Vayn and I were coparents. I liked the sound of that. I looked left to stare at the father of my hellhound pup.

My intention had been to joke about us needing to hurry home to our child. However, my gaze collided with his just as he grabbed my hand so we could dream travel together. His fingers clasped mine, and something in me jolted. A gasp escaped me. His eyes widened, proving he’d felt it, too. I opened my mouth to speak.

Instead, I groaned from the piercing ache in my gums. The taste of blood coated my tongue. Were my gums bleeding? My shadows emerged from Vayn when they heard the sound. Their worried expressions, paired with the look of concern on Vayn’s face, was a comfort. I wasn’t alone. I liked not being alone. But I didn’t like this pain.

“What’s wrong?” Vayn asked, rolling onto his side to check on me.

“My mouth hurts,” I groaned.

“Let me see.”

I opened my mouth. His eyes widened. A growl rose from his shadows. I closed my mouth.

“Is it bad?” I asked, voice sounding slightly different, like I was talking with my mouth full.

A gold ring sparked to life in Vayn’s eyes. He was either excited or angry.

“Destiny,” he said, speaking slowly, carefully, like he was afraid of something.

As he talked, my gaze dropped to his throat. Suddenly, I found myself hungry, very hungry.

“Don’t panic,” he told me.
