“Wouldn’t that be cheating?” I asked, knowing fully well that I was willing to cheat in Physical Combat class.
“It’s only cheating if we get caught,” he told me.
I laughed, loving the way he thought. The last one to kiss my hand was Dread. His dark clouds crept up my arm, teasing me, making me want to feel more of him.
“Um...” I swallowed. “What are you doing, Dread?”
“Making sure you’re not in pain anywhere before we leave your side,” he replied.
My heart melted. How was I going to keep myself from having a crush on these shadows? They were so freaking sweet. I hated to admit it, but what they were doing was the sweetest thing any guy had ever done for me. Which was sad, extremely sad.
During the farewell kisses and health check, Vayn stood off in the corner of my bedroom, blending in with the darkness of the dimly lit room. I tried to ignore him, but my eyes kept being drawn to him. Would he kiss my hand and whisper sweet words to me also? Probably not.
Before teleporting out, his gaze met mine. His shadows returned to him, disappearing into him in that way that always left me in awe. I thought he would leave without saying anything. But just as he teleported out, three words filled the air.
“Sweet dreams, Destiny.”
Smiling, I stood in the middle of my room, staring at the space he’d just occupied.
“Sweet dreams, Vayn,” I whispered to myself.
Though I was once again alone, this time, it felt different. This time, it didn’t feel permanent.
Chapter Nine
Destiny
––––––––
I was up bright and early for my class.
I even awoke before my alarm went off. Maybe I was extra excited to attend my lecture. Or maybe I was wondering if Bliss would keep his promise. Who knew? The cool morning breeze caressed my face as I stepped out of my apartment building.
Vayn and his four shadows were waiting for me. To my surprise, they were visible to everyone, not just me. Their intimidating presence seemed even more powerful now that others could see them.
"Good morning, beautiful," Charm greeted me with a warm smile while the others nodded in acknowledgment, their gazes sweeping over me like a caress.
"Morning," I replied, trying to hide my gittiness.
Was it possible for ladies to get a morning wood? Asking for a friend. Okay, I'm asking for myself. Because I'm pretty sure if my clit could stand at attention, it would be doing so right now. Vayn and his shadows were clad in all-black cargo pants, boots, and long-sleeve shirts that clung to their chests and abs like a second skin.
I wish I was their shirts and was clinging to them just as tightly. His shadows weren't shrouded in dark clouds. Instead, they were on full display for everyone to see their sexiness. Walking to class, I couldn't help but feel the weight of the gazes from other students, both guys and girls.
They were shamelessly eye-fucking my guardians right in front of me. Their expressions were filled with lust and envy as they took in Vayn and his shadows’ chiseled features and muscular forms. Yet, when they looked at me, I saw anger and envy. The jealousy radiating from them felt like a bitter gust of wind, causing me to shiver.
"Are you cold?" Bliss asked.
"No, I'm fine," I assured him, though I wasn't entirely sure I was telling the truth.
I think I'm jealous, which is crazy because I've never been jealous before. I didn't like this feeling. Despite telling myself I wouldn't fall for my guardians, I couldn't help but feel possessive of them and want to shield them from the covetous glares being thrown their way. I wanted to shout, get your own guardians to eye-fuck.
But that would make me look and sound crazy. Therefore, I pretended I didn’t see the onlookers. As we approached the entrance to my classroom, I could see my classmates gathering outside the door, their voices hushed as they watched our approach. I squared my shoulders, refusing to let their curiosity intimidate me.
As I neared the door, Vayn's shadows transformed into wisps of smoke before disappearing altogether within their Fallen. Vayn teleported away, and when he did, the students outside the classroom lost interest in me and finally entered the room and took their seats.
A few seconds later, Vayn reappeared at the back of the room. I felt his presence before I saw him. I turned to look behind me, and there he stood on the far wall, leaning against it, watching me, visible only to me. He stood at the back of the room, arms crossed over his chest, a scowl etched on his face.
No one else seemed to notice him, and it was as if he and the shadows were our little secret. He looked at me. I looked at him. Neither of us said a word as time seemed to pause for us. I couldn't help wondering what was going on in his head. Someone cleared their throat. I quickly faced forward in my seat and began pulling my book and tablets out of my bag.
