Though it was dark, I could see his shadows surrounding him. Some of his shadows were pure black, while some were tinged with colors. They all hovered around his wet body like smoke rising from a fire. I stood, still holding the hellhound who I now knew was called Beastie, in my arms. As Vayn approached me, I took a step back, retreating.

My back bumped into the wall. I’d retreated as far as I could go. He continued moving toward me. His shadows began separating from him. By the time he reached me, all four of his shadows were standing beside him – two on his left, and two on his right. From their different energies, I could tell which was which.

However, it wasn’t his shadows I was worried about. It was him. Technically, I’d broken into his home... twice. From the look on his face, I couldn’t tell whether he was pissed or impressed. I was leaning more toward pissed, given our previous encounters.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered, finding it hard to think with him that close to me.

Why did he have to smell so damn good? His cock was pitching a tent in his towel, which only made me more nervous. Nervous, because I was barely resisting the urge to reach forward and touch it, grip it, stroke it.

Damn, I needed to get laid. I jerked my gaze away from his towel. I needed to look somewhere else to clear my head. My gaze jerked to his bed. It looked comfortable. Comfortable enough to fuck on for hours. Ugh! Why was I being a perv right now?

“Why are you here?” he asked, drawing my attention back to him.

I stared into his intense dark eyes.

“I...” I cleared my throat as I tried to come up with a believable excuse.

“Hellhounds can sniff out liars,” he informed me.

Oh, right. I stared down at Beastie. Would this cute pup really snitch on me? As if he could read my mind, he shook his little head. I chuckled and rubbed his back.

“What the fuck, Beastie?” Vayn muttered.

My gaze jerked to his. “Language,” I chastised. “There’s a baby in the room.”

“A baby? That pup has killed...”

My eyes widened. Vayn went silent.

“He’s killed before?” I asked, growing nervous.

Was I holding a ferocious beast in my arms instead of an adorable hell pup?

Chapter Eight

Destiny

––––––––

I might not be a dud.

But I was definitely insane. I’d foolishly picked up a vicious beast and petted it like it was a docile puppy. Beastie stared up at me with those big eyes. He appeared sad. Awww. This pup couldn’t be vicious. But I wasn’t sure. Beastie whimpered, big eyes straying to Vayn. Vayn looked from me to the pup, then back to me.

“Fish,” Vayn said. “He’s killed fish in the pond out back. He’s a vicious fish killer.”

Fish? I chuckled. “This baby was just hungry.” I rubbed Beastie under the chin. He purred, which was so out of character for hellhounds. I giggled.

“He’s no baby,” Vayn told me. “He’s a hellhound. You have to be careful with them. They only obey their masters. They’re only loyal to their masters. Their masters are the only beings they won’t hurt.”

I stared down at Beastie. “He seems to be obeying me just fine,” I told Vayn.

“Get down, Beastie,” Vayn ordered.

I waited for Beastie to obey his master and hop out of my arms. When he didn’t, I squatted down, thinking he needed to be lower to the ground before he hopped away from me. He still didn’t leave my arms. Instead, he snuggled deeper into my embrace.

“Damn it, Beastie, she’s an intruder. What do we do to intruders?”

I glanced up at Vayn. “What do you do to intruders?”
