Once you fell asleep, you could travel to the dreams of those you’d formed a connection with. The connection could be one-sided. I could dream walk into a complete stranger’s dream, as long as I had a strand of their hair or something else that contained their DNA in my possession when I fell asleep.
I’d studied dream walking my sophomore year. I knew how it worked. However, last night, I hadn’t textbook dream walked. I hadn’t entered Vayn’s dream. I’d gone to him while he was awake. And I hadn’t been sleeping. I’d been awake also. Basically, I’d fallen asleep, then woke up in Vayn’s room.
Technically, that wasn’t dream walking. I have no idea what that was. When I was first assigned a guardian, Dean Alyk Shadow-Fallen told me to go to my guardian with any questions and concerns I may have regarding my abilities. And if any abilities manifested, I was to let my guardian know right away.
How was I to do that after seeing my guardian stroke his cock? And a big cock it was. Huge. The biggest I’d ever seen. A monster of a dick. And if I wasn’t mistaken, he’d been whispering my name as he’d stroked it. Ugh! Groaning, I turned onto my stomach and pressed my face into my comforter.
Why couldn’t I do regular shit like move things with my mind or teleport while awake? Were fangs and claws too much to ask for? My alarm clock blared, reminding me that I had classes to attend. I reached over and hit it, shutting it off. I’m not going to class today. I’ve been up all night trying to figure out what the hell happened last night.
I’m exhausted. I need sleep. Plus, I’m not ready to face my guardian or his shadows. Today, I only had two classes, and I’m passing both with flying colors. One missed day wasn’t going to hurt anything. Wait, Tia would worry if I didn’t show up for class. Especially after how much I’d complained about being sore during our phone call last night.
To keep her from worrying, I pulled out my phone and sent her a quick text to let her know I’d ended up staying up late and was too tired to go to class. Not even a minute after I sent her that text, my phone rang. It was Tia. I answered on the second ring.
“What’s up?”
“Are you okay?” Tia asked, already worried.
“Yeah. I was up all night, reading.”
“Why? We didn’t have homework, did we? I didn’t do it if we did.”
“No homework,” I assured her. Should I tell her about my new ability? We were supposed to tell each other everything. “Let’s meet up for lunch,” I told her. “I want to tell you about my new ability.”
“You’ve manifested?” she whispered, tone low, almost sad.
“Yes,” I confessed.
“That’s great.”
“Then why do you sound like you’re sad?” I asked.
“I’m not sad,” Tia rushed to add, her voice sounding a bit more excited. “I’m super happy for you. Are we ability twins? Can you manipulate fire, like me?”
“I wish I had an awesome ability like that.”
I would love to be a pyro controller. Years ago, pyro controllers had been rare. Over the last few years, more descendants began developing that ability. Though it was no longer rare, it was still cool. Cooler than dream walking.
“I’m still waiting to hear about this new ability,” Tia interrupted my thoughts.
“Oh, uh. I can dream walk. I think.”
“What do you mean you think? Either you can or you can’t. Dream walking isn’t an ability you’d get confused with something else.”
I went on to explain what happened during my first dream walking experience. I left out the fact that it was my guardian who I walked in on. I also left out what he’d been doing when I walked in on him. Damn, it had been huge. Don’t think about your guardian’s dick right now, Destiny. Ugh!
“You’re right. That does sound strange,” Tia agreed. “I’m going off campus for lunch and dinner with my bae. But how about tonight, you try to walk into my dreams?”
“I tried last night.”
“I didn’t sleep much last night.”
“Were you with your bae?” I teased.
Tia giggled. “I stayed at his place last night.”
“Did you not get demerits?”
With the new security protocol, we’re not allowed to stay the night off campus. During the day, we’re only allowed to go to guardian-run businesses off campus. If we wanted to leave campus to eat out, we had to go to a business that was protected by shadow guardians.
