“She dream traveled,” Alyk stated.
“So, my charge is a traveler?”
“It would appear so. Travelers are rare and generally have more subtle powers. There’s no razzle-dazzle to their abilities. They usually manifest late, and most of them learn to dream travel before they learn to teleport. They move around better in their sleep because that’s when they have less pressure on them to perform. It’s different from dream walking because walkers can only enter another person’s dreams. Travelers can venture into the dreams of others, or, as you’ve experienced, they can visit you while you’re wide awake. If they visit your dreams, they remain in their sleep state but are fully conscious of their actions. If they reach you and find you awake, their body will awaken also, and they’ll teleport to you. It happens instantaneously. One minute they're asleep, seeking you out. As soon as they find you awake, their body awakens and teleports to you.”
“I don’t think she meant to do it. She thought she was still sleeping.”
“That makes sense. This may have been her first time doing it. She had no idea what she was doing. While I’m glad she’s manifesting, dream traveling is a dangerous ability.”
“How so?” I asked, facing him while growing worried for Destiny.
“If a traveler falls asleep and ends up, say, in enemy territory while in their physical form, if he or she can’t fall back to sleep or teleport out, they’ll be stuck there, in enemy territory. This is very dangerous for a traveler who doesn’t know how to use their abilities. Especially with the way our kind is being hunted these days. Since it’s a dangerous ability and since travelers are so rare, we no longer teach about them here at the academy. Which sucks for our Destiny.”
“My Destiny,” I growled. “She’s... my charge. Not yours.” Damn, I was becoming possessive of my little charge. That was not a good sign.
Alyk gave me a knowing smile. “You’re right. She’s your charge. And now, more than ever, she needs her guardian.”
I sighed. I couldn’t refute his words. Destiny did need me, as a guardian. But that was it. That was all she needed from me.
“Can I ask you a question?” Alyk said.
“Go ahead.”
“What were you doing when she traveled to you?”
“I’m leaving,” I growled.
“Answer the question,” Alyk called out.
That was one question I would never answer. I walked out of his office, then teleported into my bedroom. Beastie was still curled up in the same spot, snoring. I wish I could sleep as peacefully as he was. How could I do that when her scent still lingered in the room? I inhaled deeply. A shudder racked my body as I closed my eyes.
All I could think of was the way her eyes had lit up when she’d seen my cock. Destiny desired me as much as I desired her. Before tonight, there wasn’t much that frightened me. However, her desire for me scared me. I had a feeling there were going to be a lot of sleepless nights in my future.
Starting tonight.
Chapter Seven
Destiny
––––––––
I’ve officially unlocked a new ability.
Yay me! Not. It would be a yay me if I hadn’t dream walked into Vayn’s room while he was having a very private moment with himself. A blush heated my cheeks. I pushed the thought of him gripping his cock from my mind. I couldn’t focus on that right now. I needed to focus on this new ability.
I’d long realized that I wasn’t a dud. Yet, having new abilities meant nothing if I couldn’t reveal them to others. I still had no fangs, no claws, nothing physical that proved I was a cursed descendant of a Fallen. Well, other than that thing my eyes did when I was excited or angry. Oh, and sure, I could see into the shadows.
But if others couldn’t see what I saw, I couldn’t prove that I was seeing anything at all. And sure, I could now dream walk. But how could I prove that? Last night, after showing up at Vayn’s place, I’d tried to visit others. I’d tried visiting my bestie, Tia. Nothing. I’d tried visiting my Venoms & Elixirs professor, nothing.
I’d even tried visiting the librarian, nothing. The only person I’d made contact with was Vayn. Why him? While I may have been dreaming of him, I hadn’t intentionally tried to dream walk into his home. I hadn’t known what I was doing. I wouldn’t have known I wasn’t in a dream state if he hadn’t told me it was real.
Once I realized I wasn’t dreaming, I’d panicked. Embarrassment had flooded my veins. I’d wanted to be anywhere but there. Then suddenly I wasn’t there. I was in the hall outside of my apartment with no way to enter my apartment. I’d had to awaken the apartment monitor so she could use her keys to let me into my place. And I’d acquired five demerits in the process.
Ugh!
Groaning, I slammed my Supernatural Abilities & Concepts book shut and flopped back onto my bed. This book didn’t have anything in it that I didn’t already know. I’d wanted to look up dream walking to learn how it worked. Our school books only contained technical knowledge. I already knew the technical stuff. For instance, to dream walk, you must first fall asleep.
Duh.
