“Kaede, hey,” Rhen said, taking a step closer to Winter to shield her from the dragon.
“I’ll deal with you later, vampire,” Kaede growled. “For now, I must have my mate.”
Shit. “Kaede, no,” both Rhen and Winter shouted.
But they couldn’t stop Kaede from speeding out the back door, vamp speed, with Sinclair in his arms. Rhen and Winter raced to the back door.
“Go after them,” Winter told him.
“Do you really think I’m going to leave you here to go chasing after them? Fuck no. Even after all your lies, I still put you first.”
“My lies? I haven’t lied to you. I just didn’t tell you who or what I was.”
“You let me think you were a witch.”
“I never once told you I was a witch.”
“You never once told me you weren’t.”
“Do witches have inner animals?”
“You could’ve been a shifter hybrid.”
“Do witches have inner demons?”
“You’ve got a fucking demon too? Who the fuck are you?”
“Shut up, Rhen. I don’t have time to deal with you, my sisters, and the drampire who kidnapped my best friend.”
“When it rains, it pours.” Rhen rubbed his hand over his head. “My fucking hair is gone.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, really.”
“How is that even important right now?”
“Okay, let’s focus on what’s important. My mate is a Decider. She’s also the Goddess of War. She’s also possessed.”
“I am not possessed.”
“You’ve got a demon in you.”
“You’ve got darkness in you.”
“That’s different.”
“Has my demon ever hurt you?”
“For all I know, she’s the one that’s been staking me and trying to set me on fire all these years.”
“Wrong. She gets upset whenever I hurt you.”
His frown evaporated. “Really?”
“Yeah.”
He smiled. “Tell her I like her too.”
