“Shut it,” Sin said.

“To apologize, I’ll help you come up with a new name for this new species I’ve created.”

“I don’t need your help.”

“How about, vagon? Or…”

“I’m not listening to you, Rhen.”

“How about this one, Drampire?”

“Rhen, go away…wait. I like that.”

“It has a nice ring to it, right?”

“It does. Drampire. I like it.”

“You two are pitiful,” Winter said. “It’s up to Kaede to decide what he’s called.”

“I think he’ll like drampire,” Rhen told Winter.

“You think a lot of things that end up being wrong.”

“Want to bet?”

Not with Sinclair here. “I’m not betting with you?”

“Why? Afraid I’ll win?”

Yes! “I’m not afraid of you, Rhen.”

“Oh. I know. You’re afraid of what I’ll ask for when I win.”

He was still cranky about the hair incident. “I’m not shaving my hair off.”

“That’s not what I’m going to ask for.”

Oh. Winter blushed. She opened her mouth to tell him off, then paused. Her wards were chiming again. But Rhen was already inside.

“Are your wards chiming again?” Sin asked.

“Yes,” Winter whispered.

“Who is it?”

“It smells like them,” Vicky growled.

Shit. Without answering Sinclair, Winter left the room. Rhen followed her. She wanted to tell him to stay with Sinclair, but that would just make him more suspicious. He stood directly behind her when she reached the living room and pulled the curtain back to look out the window.

“I told you it was them,” Vicky purred.

“Don’t open the door,” Winter told Rhen, who had moved over to the door and was reaching for the door handle.

“I’ll get rid of whoever is out there.”

Damn it. Why now? Why did they have to come tonight? Why couldn’t they just leave them alone and let them live their life? With a sigh, she told him, “It won’t be easy getting rid of these three.”

“Who is it?” Rhen asked.
