“I’ll go open the door for him.”
“Okay.”
As Winter walked away, a smile spread across her face. She was excited about seeing Rhen. Since Kaede was still slumbering, Rhen had been helping out at the compound. Together with Silvia, he was creating defense mechanisms to keep the compound and the village safe. This took up most of his time. But whenever he had downtime, he snuck by to see her. She’d even updated her wards for him. They still chimed when he was near. But, they no longer shocked him when he opened her gate. If that wasn’t love, she didn’t know what it was. She unlocked her front door and opened it. Before she could say anything, he grabbed her and pulled her close. His lips pressed against her, claiming them in a fierce kiss. She wanted to pull away. Sinclair was in the other room. What if she walked in on them? But she’d been thinking about this kiss all day. Instead of pulling away, she leaned into him, reveling in the feel of his mouth against hers. When they finally came up for air, “I hate being away from you all day?”
“Me too,” she told him. “But, I have to stay here with Kaede and Sinclair.”
Rhen sighed. “That damn dragon is starting to piss me off.”
“You have no right to be pissed off. He’s like this because of you.”
“I didn’t tell him to sleep for three months.”
“Rhen, you had no idea what would happen because you’ve never done this before.”
“You’re arguing about it.”
“What?”
“You said we wouldn’t argue about this anymore. Unless we were putting on our act for Sinclair.”
He was right. “Okay. I’ll stop.”
“That’s my sweet Kitten.” He kissed the tip of her nose. “Let’s go see how the undead dragon is doing.”
“Don’t call him that in front of Sinclair.”
“Why not? That’s what he is.”
“Because it’s insensitive.”
“Oh, right.” Rhen closed her front door and locked it.
She checked her wards to make sure they were still powered up. Then she and Rhen headed to the guest room where Sinclair was. When they reached the room, they stood out in the hallway, nervous about entering while she was talking with Kaede. Winter listened in on what she was saying.
“No more secrets, Kaede. On your part and mine,” Sinclair said to her sleeping mate. “I’ve told Winter that I plan to tell you everything. Given the situation we’re in, she’s okay with it. From this day forward, we will tell each other everything. Now wake up. Because I really miss you, dragon. Um, vampire dragon. Vamp-drag. Drag-vamp. Dramp.”
Was she trying to come up with a new name for him? Winter’s gaze turned to Rhen. He was grinning.
“She’s trying to figure out what to call this new breed of dragon,” Rhen whispered. “Man, I’ve got to get in on this. I’m his creator. I call dibs on naming the bastard.”
Shaking her head, Winter followed Rhen into the bedroom. There was never a dull moment when her silly gorgeous vampire was around. She smiled as she watched him argue with Sinclair. She’d made up her mind. Tonight was going to be the night she told him she loved him.
“About damn time,” Vicky growled.
“He’s going to be so happy,” War purred.
“I want to spend the rest of my life keeping him happy,” she told her beasts. “I think we both deserve that.”
Chapter Twenty
Winter
“All of those names sound hideous,” Rhen told Sinclair.
“You shut up. You’re the reason he’s like this,” Sinclair complained.
“I told Kaede about my plan before I put it into action. It’s not my fault he didn’t pay attention…”
