“Too late,” he told her, still wearing that goofy ass grin. “I’m already happy.” He leaned forward. “Part of my Christmas wish has been fulfilled.”
“No, it hasn’t.”
Chuckling, he winked at her then turned away and opened the bathroom door. “I’ll wait for you in the living room. Hurry up.”
He left her staring after him.
“Yay, War,” Vicky cheered. “You’ve made our mate happy. You rock. You’re so much better than Winter. Team War forever. Forget all those mean things I said about you in the past.”
“Shut up, Vicky?” Winter yelled. “I’ve got to go out there and fix this. He can’t leave here thinking we want him. Shut up,” Winter ordered when her beasts started to protest. They didn’t understand. A happy Rhen was a dangerous Rhen. A happy Rhen would try to come by more often. He’d pop up unannounced. He’d start trying to charm her again. And she didn’t want that.
“You’re just scared that he’ll win you over.”
Ignoring her demon, Winter walked out of the bathroom.
“I think Vicky is right,” War purred.
So did Winter. And that’s why she couldn’t let Rhen leave there happy.
Chapter Fourteen
Rhen
She’d growled for him.
His little witch with the suspicious inner animal had growled for him. Fuck yeah! If she wasn’t eyeing him, he’d be running around her cabin screaming fuck yeah to the ceiling. But she was watching him and she looked pissed. Normally, that sour expression would’ve bothered him.
Not today. Not now that he knew at least a part of her wanted him. He could work with that. He would work with that. She slowly walked from the bathroom back into the living room. He sat on the couch, resisting the desire to go to her and tell her to purr for him again.
Fuck, that sound had been sexy as hell. Ever since Silvia found out Winter had an inner animal, Rhen had been wondering what it was. Just now, it sounded like a cat. From now on, he’d refer to her as his kitten.
“Will you please stop smiling,” she said and rolled her eyes.
“I can’t help it.”
“It’s creeping me out.”
“What? Not this smile. I’ve been told my smile is brighter than the sun.”
“Must’ve been one of your groupies. Sorry. They lied to you. Your smile reminds me of the fires of hell.”
Rhen chuckled. “So, you’re saying I’m hot?”
“I’m saying you’re a devil.”
“Devilishly handsome?”
She shook her head. “Just the devil part. Okay…” she stood across the room from him with her hands folded over her chest. “Let’s get down to business. I can’t let you turn Kaede into a vampire.”
“You kind of can’t stop me,” Rhen shrugged. His trust of words seemed to irritate her.
“If I wanted, I could definitely stop you. But, I’m not the violent creature I used to be. I’ve changed. I’ve matured.”
Damn right, she’d matured. Those curves were banging.
She snapped her fingers. “Eyes up here.”
“I wasn’t looking at your breasts.”
