“And Team Love. And Team Hope. And Team Joy. And Team Fun. Basically, you need Team Rhen. So, I vote we go out there and strip for him. What do you vote for, War?”
Winter waited for War to speak up.
“I vote that we get to know him. We don’t know if he’s tamed his darker side yet.”
At least War had a little sense.
“Fuck War. Let’s go with what I said,” Vicky said.
A knock at the door, pulled Winter’s attention away from the trifecta. “Who is it?”
“Who else would it be?” Vicky growled. “Team Dick.”
“It’s me,” Rhen said. “Are you okay in there? Did you fall into the toilet?”
Vicky chuckled. “Our mate is so funny. He deserves some head for that one.”
Winter sighed. “I’ll be out in a second.”
“Or you can let me come inside.”
She lowered her head. “Please stop saying that phrase.”
“Which part?”
The come inside part. “Never mind.”
“The ‘Or you can’ part?” Or the, ‘Let me come inside’ part?”
She didn’t have time for this. She was done playing around with her inner beasts and the beast outside her bathroom door. Winter raised her head and grabbed a towel from the rack against the wall. She blotted her face dry then tossed the towel in her wooden hamper. Her gaze returned to her mirror.
After fixing her hair and straightening her clothes on her, she took a deep breath and tried to calm her nerves. She ignored Vicky who was hellbent on giving away their pussy. Staring into the mirror, she gave herself a mental pep talk. I got this. I’m the Goddess of War. A brief encounter with a vampire cannot shake me.
“I would love to be shaken and stirred,” Vicky said.
Ignoring her, Winter continued with her mental pep talk. “I’m stronger than I used to be. I can’t be wooed by vampire charms. I’m not one of his groupies. I’m not into the fetish of being bitten by vampire. I’m…”
“If you’re not coming out, I’m going to head to the compound to turn Kaede into a vampire.”
Bastard. “I’m coming,” Winter yelled. And she could’ve sworn she held him whisper, “I wish.”
“I heard it too,” Vicky announced.
“Me too,” War added.
Winter stared at the bathroom door. A tremble raced down her spine. A feeling that usually came over her right before something very good or something very bad happened. Winter shook it off then whispered a spell of protection.
“Those spells don’t work so well against mates,” Vicky reminded her.
Winter sighed, starting to regret this whole idea. She never should’ve let the devil into her home.
“But isn’t he a handsome devil,” Vicky cooed.
“You’re free to think what you want, Vicky. But try to keep your thoughts to yourself. And if you even try to takeover while we’re out there with him, I will find a way to exorcise you.”
“Sticks and stones.”
“Potions and spells.”
