“Rhen, what do you have in mind?”

“He doesn’t think he can make it through the night of the full moon without hurting her. So, I’m going to make sure he doesn’t make it to the full moon. I’m going to kill him.”

“What the hell, Rhen?”

He winched and leaned away from the intercom. “Witch, you’re going to burst my eardrums.”

“How does killing him help Sinclair? How does that help anyone? Do you even understand what the world help means?”

“Of course, I do. I’m just going to kill him a little.”

“Rhen Fujisaki…”

“I like it when you say my whole name like that.”

“Vampire, focus! Rhen, there’s no such thing as killing someone a little bit.”

“What I mean by that is, he won’t stay dead.”

“You’re going to turn him.”

“Bingo.”

“Have you ever successful turned anyone?”

“Not in my life.”

For a long time, she didn’t say anything. “Is there anyway I can talk you out of this?”

“Not a chance. I know what I’m doing. This will help Sinclair and Kaede.” And it’ll show you that I am a good person.

“Rhen, Kaede is already on The Deciders’ shit list. They may not have attacked the compound yet, but they will. Now is not the time for you to be turning Kaede in a vampire. Especially since you don’t know if it will work or not.”

“I’ll work.”

“You don’t know that.”

“Can’t you have a little faith in me?”

“No. I can’t. Been there. Done that. I have the bite mark to prove that I can’t put my faith in you.”

“I’m not the same vampire I was that night, Winter,” Rhen said, voice low.

“And I’m not the same Winter I was that night. I know better than to put my faith in anyone other than myself. If you need help coming up with a plan, I’ll help…”

“No thank you. I got this.” He would show her that he could handle shit like this on his own.

“Rhen, I can…”

“I don’t need your help, Winter. I’ve told you what I came to say. I’ll leave now.”

“Hey, Rhen,” She called after him.

Ignoring her, he headed over to his bike. He’d just climbed on and was getting ready to shove his helmet on when he heard her open her front door.

“Vampire!”

“I’m busy.”
