He didn’t tell her the only sexual contact he’d had here was in his dreams, with her, years ago. He didn’t tell her that she was the only one he wanted to touch, to be near, to love. Even if he did, she wouldn’t believe him. Just like she didn’t believe him when he said he was sorry. Neither did she believe him when he said he had his bloodlust problem controlled.
“Are you going to tell me what’s going on with Sin or not?” Winter yelled. “If something happens to her…”
“You’re going to hold me responsible. I know.”
“What’s wrong with her?”
“Nothing’s wrong. She’s living at the compound with Kaede.”
“You told me that a couple of days ago.”
“She’s accepted him as her mate.”
“You told me that also.”
“Christmas is coming. She plans to cook for Kaede on Christmas.”
“Good for her and the dragon. Anything else?”
“Do you want to hear my Christmas wish?”
“I do. But under one condition.”
“I die afterwards?”
She smiled. His heart flipped over in his chest.
“You know me so well,” she told him.
“I want to get to know you all over again,” Rhen replied. “I want to get to know the new you.”
“Why would I let you get to know the new me when you’re the one who killed the old me?”
Ouch. “I’m sorry….”
“If sorry worked, there would be no need for the police.”
“Where did you hear that at?”
“None of your business. If you’re done, let’s end this…”
“There’s more.”
“What, Rhen?”
“I want you for Christmas, Winter.” It was the same wish he had every year. And every year he told it to her. And every year, she told him the same thing. He held his breath, praying that this year would be different. She opened her mouth to speak.
Rhen prayed harder.
Chapter Twelve
Rhen
“Go fuck yourself, Rhen.”
With that said, she strode back into her house and slammed the door.
“You could’ve at least said you’d think about it.” Rhen sighed.
