Chapter Twelve

Kaede

“She’s at Lee’s house,” Rhen told him.

“I figured.” Seated on the couch across from Rhen, Kaede stared down at the floor.

“Did you call me over here to watch you stare at the floor?”

“I should’ve made her mad days ago.”

“That had been the plan. But you kept saying, “I’ll do it tomorrow.” Tomorrow never came. Now, tomorrow night is the night of the full moon.”

“And your witch friend still hasn’t found anything?”

“Nothing.”

“Fuck.”

“You didn’t make her angry enough to hate you, dude. You pissed her off. But, she’s just upset. That’s it.”

“I know. I need to do something else. But even doing what I just did, I still feel like a jerk.”

“You are.”

“Shut up, Rhen. I hurt her feelings. Now I’m hurting because she’s hurting.”

“Imagine how you’re going to feel if you kill her.”

Kaede swiped his hand over his face. “I don’t even want to think about that.”

“Go big or go home.”

“What?”

“It’s what all the young creatures are saying. It means, I can’t really explain what it means. Just, if you’re going to make her mad enough to hate you forever, you’ve got to go all out.”

“Like.”

“Like, you’ve got to cheat on her.”

“Fuck that. I will never cheat on my treasure.”

“I’m not saying to do it for real. I’m saying, make it seem like you’re going to do it. Trust me, that will definitely make a female hate you. And I know just the succubus to play along with you.”

“Not Jenna. Sin hates her.”

“That’s why she’s perfect for the job.”

“I can’t do that to Sinclair.”

“Either hurt her this way or kill her? Those are your only two options.”

“It pains me to hurt her.”

“Losing you is going to hurt her. Either way, she’ll be in pain. At least this way, she’ll move on easier.”

“You’re right. I suspect you’ve already talked to Jenn about this?”
