Chapter Two
Christmas Eve…
A mini storm blew through on Christmas Eve.
It was minor, compared to the other storms that plagued this plane. That day, Sin decided to bake blueberry pies for Kaede and the others. Since she was being kept inside, she wasn’t much help to the others. Everyone at the compound pulled their own weight. Even the succubus chick.
Sin didn’t want to feel like a freeloader. That’s why she went on a baking spree. There were no real blueberries in the Frostlands. She had to settle for the next best thing, which was some blueberry looking fruit call puckle fruit. The name was hideous, but the fruit was pretty tasty. And there was a field of them at the compound.
They were used for sweetening beverages, making candy, making wine, and for snacking on. They were one of the few fruits that could survive the harsh weather conditions there year-round. After baking her pies, she planned to keep one for their house and deliver the rest to the main kitchen in the compound. Lee stopped by to help Sin on the last batch.
“You’re baking your sister’s favorite dessert,” Lee noticed. “Blueberry pie. Well, puckleberry pie. The next best thing.”
“Yeah. Making this makes me feel closer to her. If I was home, we’d be making this right now. It was one of our Christmas Eve traditions.”
It was one of Shade’s favorite Christmas traditions. On the night that Kaede kidnapped her, she was supposed to go to her friend, Winter’s cabin, so that she could use her Mirror of Realms to communicate with her family. With the magical mirror, she was supposed to watch her sister, Shade, decorate the Christmas.
Because of Kaede, she’d missed that opportunity. Due to the events that followed their initial meeting, she hadn’t had a chance to reach out to Winter or her family. Rhen had sent word to Winter, asking her to let Sin’s family know that Sin was okay. However, her family would still worry.
They wouldn’t stop worrying until they could see her in the magical mirror for themselves. That would ease a little of their worrying. However, it wouldn’t completely disappear until she was rescued from this place and returned to their side. She was eager for that to happen.
However, when she left, she wouldn’t be going home alone. She would be bringing her beau home to meet her parents. Kaede would come with her also. He wasn’t the only one. Sin glanced over at Lee. Lee and Nachik would be coming too. Sin wanted to rescue all of her friends if she could.
“How many more batches do you have to make?” Lee asked.
“This is the last batch. It goes to the villagers outside the compound. But, it has to chill in the main refrigerator before it’s taken to them tomorrow.”
“How nice of you. Married life has changed you.”
“What?” Sin gave her friend the side-eye. “This is how I’ve always been.”
“Tell that to someone who didn’t grow up with you on the mortal plane.”
“I’ve always been nice, Lee.”
“Hmmm….”
“You don’t think so?”
“If you say so.”
“Tell me when I’ve been mean.”
“You weren’t mean, per se. But you were quick to get an attitude.”
“That doesn’t mean I’m not nice.”
“No. It doesn’t. It just means you’re quick to get an idea.”
Sin shrugged. “If people don’t fuck with me, I don’t get a bad attitude.”
“Sometimes, you get in your moods, and whether people fuck with you or not, you have a slight attitude.”
Sin stopped stirring her batter and faced Lee. “Where is this coming from?”
Lee sighed. “I didn’t want to say nothing, but…”
“Spit it out.”
