“Henri still won’t answer, so I’m going to his apartment to force him to talk to me like he should have six years ago before he chose to lie to me.”
After leaving the equipment room, I came home and googled the rivalry. Turns out, everything Reyes said that day was one hundred percent honest. Unlike my dickwad brother.
“Does Mateo know?”
“No. They play Vegas tonight, so we haven’t really talked much, plus he doesn’t need to. It’ll only distract him and he can’t afford that right now. Especially not when there’s supposed to be a bigwig from some sponsor of his attending the game. I’ll handle this on my own. He’s been through enough because of Henri.”
She just nods before helping me pack. “I love you, Niamh. And I’m sorry for not listening to your advice.”
“It’s alright, Éllie. I understand it was hard. And obviously, I love you too. I wouldn’t put up with your stubborn ass otherwise.”
We finish collecting everything I need for a weeklong trip in comfortable silence. “So, when’s your flight? Do you want a ride to the airport? Do you have your passport?”
I snort. She’s such a teacher. “Yes, I have my passport. My flight is in four hours. And if you’re willing, I’d rather ride with you than in an Uber.”
“Thank you for being the best friend I could ask for. Hell, for everything, really.” Throwing my arms around her, I pull Niamh into a massive hug before stepping back so we can head down to the car.
Now to force Henri to finally tell the truth.
