‘You were saying?’ Mr Devlin said.
‘Er…’
‘The sex therapy sessions?’ he reminded me.
‘Oh yeah.’ I slapped my forehead. ‘I was going to say they’d be good to attract couples to the store. They’d pay a fee, which could be redeemed against products and books purchased in-store. The sessions could help couples revive their sex lives. And to attract more customers, maybe the experts could give advice to less experienced individuals too. People like me need all the help we can get!’ I laughed, then cringed, my gaze dropping to the floor.
Crap. I shouldn’t have said that.
It was like whenever I was left alone with Mr Devlin, I had a habit of embarrassing myself.
If Valerie was guarding his office that night, ShowerGate wouldn’t have happened. And if she didn’t have to rush off tonight, I wouldn’t have just admitted to my boss that I was a bedroom novice.
Then again, it wasn’t like he didn’t know that already. That would’ve been obvious from the moment I didn’t realise that the Lip-Stick was a vibrator.
God, I missed that magic stick. Especially now I was sat in front of the man I thought about whenever I used it.
Heat flooded my cheeks and when my gaze reluctantly returned to Mr Devlin, he was frowning.
‘Are you a virgin, Eleanor?’ he asked, before a look of horror washed over his face. ‘Don’t answer that. It’s an inappropriate question. My apologies.’
‘No, I’m not,’ I said, ignoring his request not to answer. ‘But it’s been so long I feel like one!’ I laughed.
Jesus. What was wrong with me?
Not content with putting one foot in my mouth, I had to put the other one in too.
I needed to say something to bring this conversation back to professional ground.
‘But that’s about to change because I’m going to start using Sated’s dating app.’
Phew. That was actually a great response. It showed that I was immersing myself in the company, by using more of its products and services.
‘You’re going to use our app?’ Mr Devlin repeated, grinding his jaw.
That wasn’t quite the response I was hoping for…
‘Yes.’
‘To start a serious relationship?’
‘Maybe. But it’s more to…’ I paused.
‘To what?’ Mr Devlin leant forward.
This conversation felt different. It didn’t seem like I was talking to my big, grumpy boss any more. He seemed like he was taking a genuine interest in my wellbeing. Bolstered by that, I decided to tell him the truth.
‘It’s just that Sated’s books are amazing, but reading these spicy novels makes me…’ I paused again as I searched for the right words.
I knew what I wanted to say.
I wanted to tell him that reading those books made me extremely horny.
A barrage of filthy thoughts flooded my mind.
The sexy narrator’s voice and the dirty talk.
The fantasies of Mr Devlin ravishing me in this office.
