Dino glared at him. “IF there had been a killer?” he griped.

Bane stared at him. “Ok, so another killer. One that wants you dead.” He raised a brow at him.

“So why were you hiding?” Jillian asked Bane.

He shrugged. “I don’t want to shoot the wrong person, you know?” He tucked his gun back into his gun sheath under his ribs.

“Yeah, I’ll bet,” Dino snapped.

At his nasty tone, Jillian raised her head and stared at him.

More noise came from the room and Dino reached for the door. The handle broke off in his hand when he tried to turn it. “Damnit,” he swore. He pounded on the door and called out, “We’re working on getting you out, Gramps, but it’s going to take a little while. The handle broke off.”

“Mover over,” Bane told him.

Dino looked up at him. Then surprisingly he did as he told him.

Bane backed up a little then raised his boot and kicked the door.

It flew off the hinges and the door skittered along the floor. Dust blew up in front of them.

Dino coughed and grumbled, “Holy shit.”

“Wow!” Jillian exclaimed. “Like you are a human bulldozer aren’t you?”

Bane did not reply to that. Instead, he raised his hand up at them and said, “Wait.”

Dino shook his head. “He might be hurt and we—”

Bane repeated it as he growled, “Wait.”

Jillian grabbed Dino’s arm and tugged him back.

Taking his flashlight out, Bane shone it over the floor.

Both Jillian and Dino leaned in to look and gasped.

The door was partially lying over a huge hole that was right in front of the doorway. It looked like someone had hacked away at the wooden floor. Had they gone in, they would have fallen in and broken some bones.

Bane motioned them back and then he took a few steps back as well. Rushing forward, he jumped over the large hole.

“Oh, man,” Jillian whispered in awe as he’d leapt at least eight feet across.

Bane turned and moved the door over the hole. Then he stepped on it to test it.

Jillian shined her light around the room and found Matthew curled up in the corner. His clothes were dusty but he seemed alert.

Dino stepped across the door-path then rushed over to him and helped him to his feet.

Matthew shielded his eyes against the light. Then he stumbled on the uneven ground.

Jillian moved over to slip her arm around the other side of Matthew.

Bane stepped over to the door. “Hand him over.”

They stared at him.

“Why?” Dino asked.
