Dino did the same.

Pushing with everything they had, the door suddenly gave way and they both tumbled outside.

Jillian ended up on top of Dino. “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry.”

Dino grinned at her. “Not a problem, sweetness.”

Jillian flushed and stood up, she had wanted to get close to Dino but not like that. Looking around she could see they were in the backyard. Brushing the cobwebs and dirt from her clothes, she commented, “I haven’t had a chance to discover the secrets of the backyard yet.” She glanced back at the opening to the old plantation rooms. “And I doubt I would have discovered that door with all this brush in front of it.”

Dino also dusted his clothes off and looked around. “Well, it makes sense that it’s located here.”

Jillian stared at him. “Why would its location be so obvious?”

Dino pointed to the back door of the Inn. “I saw a picture of the plantation online. The Inn is the main part of the plantation, attached to the main part would be the slave quarters and storage areas. Those areas are gone now but they would have had underground storage to keep their produce cool in the fall and not frozen in the winter.”

“Okay I get that but it doesn’t really help us find Matthew.” Jillian sighed.

Dino looked back at the cellar. “Well now that we have the door open, there will be a little more light to do our searching. Come on, let’s go back and have a look around.”

“Ugg, what a creepy place and I hope those spiders are ghosts too.” She shivered. “I do not want a live spider in my hair.”

“Man, now you want ghost-spiders? What the hell would they even be like? I mean did you ever see IT...The movie?”

“Oh my God, Dino! I was already dreading this. I mean if I see a clown I am gonna lose it.”

Dino laughed. “I’ll go first milady and protect you from Pennywise.”

“I hated that clown. You are making this worse!”

He kept chuckling.

Looking disgusted, Jillian followed him back underground.

Chapter Six

Dust swirled in the daylight coming through the door. This room seemed to be very large with several rooms leading off the main one.

“This is as good as any place to start looking for your grandfather,” Jillian stated.

“But how would he even get down here?” Dino went over to the first door and tried to open it.

Jillian thought she knew how, but Dino would never listen to the ghost stuff, so she kept quiet.

They went to the other side of the hall and began opening the doors.

She got the first one open and saw nothing but dust and those dreaded cobwebs inside. She went to the second door and was reaching for the handle when a sound from inside the room caught her attention. She glanced over at Dino and motioned for him to come over to where she stood.

Dino approached the door and pressed his ear to the wood. When he heard the sounds he backed up a little and pounded on the door. “Grandpa, are you in there?”

“He is.”

They both gasped and whirled around.

Bane stood there holding a flashlight and he lowered it.

“How do you know?” Dino asked skeptically.

“I trailed his blood spots and tracks here. I heard you two coming so I hid until I knew who it was. You aren’t stealth-like are you?” He cocked his head at them. “Damn, you were noisy enough to wake the dead.” He smirked. “Tromping along and all that talking. If there had been a killer here, lying in wait?” He motioned at them. “Both of you would be dead now.”
