“Yes. We had a good laugh over it.”
“I’d hate to be a third wheel.”
“I was thinking about asking Gabe too.”
Morgan stiffened. In the past, going out with Maria and Gabe hadn’t posed a problem, but things had changed. Now Maria might sense that something was up, although maybe she’d be too focused on Matt to notice.
“I guess you could ask him,” she said, pretending like she didn’t care one way or another.
“Will you mention it tomorrow when you drive in to work together?”
“Sure.”
“Is everything okay, Morgan? You seem a bit…distracted.”
“Sorry. I’m kind of worn out from the weekend.” Not to mention all the sex!
Maria glanced at her watch. “Yeah. Me too. I guess we should hit the hay.”
When they went back inside, Morgan’s phone buzzed on the kitchen counter where she’d left it. She picked it up and saw that Gabe had sent her a text. Maria was busy loading some dishes into the dishwasher, so Morgan quickly opened it.
Thinking of you. Don’t forget to wear a dress tomorrow. G.
“What is it?” Maria asked.
“Oh. Just Gabe reminding me about a meeting we have tomorrow.”
“My brother. Always thinking about work!”
Not always!
A few minutes later, Morgan was in her bedroom, unpacking her bag, when she found it. At the bottom of the bag, underneath the rest of her clothes, was Gabe’s sweatshirt, the one he’d loaned her on the hike. She brought it up to her face and inhaled his intoxicating, masculine scent. Then she put it on over her pajamas and climbed into bed.
She picked up her phone from the nightstand and typed out a quick text.
Your sweatshirt ended up in my bag.
Seconds later, he responded. I put it there. You can have it.
How sweet. Does this mean we’re going steady? Lol.
Do people still call it that?
Only old people.
We’re not that old.
Not yet.
I wish you were here.
She stared at the last sentence and tried not to read too much into it. It was just sex, after all.
Didn’t you get enough of me today?
I don’t think that’s possible.
She smiled, unsure of how to respond. This was getting dangerous, at least for her.
