She would be pissed later, if I let her attack the woman just for looking at me. Carmen could win any fight she started. With the small physical therapist, this one wouldn't be a close call.
"Is everything okay?" the physical therapist asked us.
"We decided to seal a mate bond last night," Carmen said stiffly.
It took me significant effort to fight back a grin.
She didn't sound enthusiastic in the slightest, but I had no problem with the challenge. I'd win her over eventually.
Lisa, our physical therapist, stopped walking suddenly.
Carmen did too. My chest met her back lightly, but I was careful not to bump her shoulder.
"Oh my god. Really?" Lisa asked.
Carmen attempted a nod. "We decided we've kept things private for long enough."
"Have you told the managers? They're going to have to submit the proper paperwork to the university, so they're aware of the situation. Your classes will need to be changed. No one's reported the status change to me. You'll need to fill out consent forms for each other, to give us permission to touch you, and—"
Carmen cut her off. "We haven't talked to anyone yet. King is just worried about my shoulder. It's kind of a big deal, career-wise."
Lisa blinked. "Right."
"We'll get the paperwork done today. Contractually, we have three days to report it to the team," I said. "Legally, we have two weeks before the university has to know."
She blinked again. "True."
I added, "My mate's shoulder is the priority right now."
"Of course. This way. We'll be in room nine. Let me just grab the forms."
We went into room nine together, and I shut the door behind us. Even if everyone outside hadn't been interested in staring at us, I would prefer privacy. It was a vampire thing.
"This is going to be a total shit show," Carmen muttered, plopping down heavily in the single chair off to the side of the flat, black therapy table.
"Which part?"
"Everything. For weeks. Months, even. Maybe years."
I leaned up against the wall, slipping my hands in the pockets of my sweats. "I'll take care of it."
"You can't take care of everything for me, King."
"After we fill out the main paperwork, I technically can."
She dragged a hand through her hair. The strands stuck up wildly, messy from a night spent in the therapy office, then in bed with me.
My cock throbbed with the reminder.
"We can't be mates," she finally said, meeting my gaze. Her voice was barely above a whisper. "It's so… intense."
"We can handle intense."
"How? I'm a hockey player. You're going to lose your shit every time another man comes near me, and I am constantly surrounded by large men."
"The possessiveness will only be out of control for the first few days."
"If we're lucky."
