“What?” She sputtered, neck snapping in my direction.

“Yeah, but you can’t tell him I told you. He confided in me because he said you’re crazy. They got into a scuffle about the groceries, Noah got him in a headlock, and Brian bit him to get out of it.”

“Not realizing he was confiding in a psycho,” she huffed as we pulled up to a red light.

“Aye, I’m elevating.” I raised my hands in self-praise.

“I can only imagine. Thank you for looking out for Noah,” Khaleesi leaned over to peck my cheek. “Maurice too. They both love you. I do feel like it makes Stanley feel like he doesn’t have to do as much now since they are always telling him Xain did this and that.”

“I could go talk with your dad,” I suggested.

“No,” Khaleesi cackled, looking at the text that came through on her phone. “They are already home. Asking where we are.”

“Oh yeah, I promised to order pizza and wings. You know they get out of school like they ain’t ate all day. Use my card and order it for me, please,” I requested, slipping Khaleesi my wallet.

“Of course.”

Khaleesi took my card and ordered the pizza while I focused on the road. I reached over and squeezed her thigh, pulling a seductive glance out of her. That crazy ass girl turned my life upside down in the best way.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Khaleesi

Two Months Later

Istood in the middle of the stage with my headset on, bouncing on the balls of my feet as we went through the last full production rehearsal before the tour started. Excitement rushed through me, and tears welled in my eyes as I watched my greatest accomplishment to date. Q walked the stage, rapping his lyrics. The visuals, the dancers, his stage presence, and everything in between were executed flawlessly. Then the beat dropped to his last high-energy song, and flames rose behind him. I finally relaxed because the pyro cue was just a little off during previous pyro tests. It felt like cinder blocks were lifted from my shoulders when they got it right.

“That was perfect,” Joyce, the production manager, said into the headset.

“Phenomenal,” I confirmed. “Great job, everyone. This show is going to be amazing.”

The lights dimmed, and Q went into the last song, the one he prepared for Jameera. It went superviral, and the ladies were loving it. Rehearsal was almost over. I took my phone off DND and saw a missed call from my lawyer and three from Jameera.

Xain ambled towards me with a pastry box, and I pulled my headphones around my neck.

“What do you have there?” I bubbled, bouncing over to Xain.

“While y’all were rehearsing, I found this Moroccan bakery off Bruce B Downs with briwats.”

“No,” I gasped, pulling the box open. “This is reminding me of our first date,” I swooned.

“You deserve a sweet treat after all of the hard work you’ve put in. I’m proud of you. Congratulations. Did you speak with the lawyer today?”

“No, I just saw he called,” I replied, picking up the pastry with a napkin.

“Well, he was able to get everybody else’s charges dropped except mine. Conveniently, the two officers who handcuffed us didn’t have their body cams on.”

“How convenient,” I grumbled between bites.

As much as I wanted to jump for joy that my charges were dropped, I couldn’t celebrate in Xain’s face while he was still in limbo.

“There is no proof that they were roughing you up. I’m still in limbo. But I’m not worried about that shit for real. We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. Those charges are off your back, and your fill-in can kick rocks. She was never going to measure up to you anyway.”

“Khaleesi! Charges were dropped! It’s time to celebrate!” Jameera shouted, running over to me.

“I just heard.”

Q’s song ended, and the instrumental played as the podium lowered him beneath the stage. Jameera watched him, and they blew each other kisses and threw up hand hearts. They were so stinking cute. Once Q finally disappeared, Jameera refocused on me. I was stuffing my face.
