So it isn’t all hopeless okay? Its sad but it’s not hopeless
Auston stared at the long stream of messages for a while, rereading it all a couple of times.
It’s sad, but it’s not hopeless.
There had been parts of him that had been roughened and sharpened in preparation for what was to come, hardening themselves against loss. In that moment, though, the edges softened, painful but porous, letting the possibility of something more in.
Auston had to smile at the idea that Charlie had taken time to think about his response before sharing it.

Thank you, baby. That really means a lot
You’re right, it’s not hopeless. And I’m glad you like me. I like you too
Charlie
Yeah?
Aunix
Yeah. Check your PO box tomorrow. I’ve sent you something, should get there soon
Charlie
Thank you!!
Are you feeling a little better?
Aunix
A lot better. Thank you, honey
Charlie
You’re welcome

The text was accompanied by a picture of a massive box sitting on a coffee table.
Auston grinned. He’d been looking forward to this all day.
Aunix

Charlie
No I wanted to do it with you
