I step closer, and his eyes dip down in surprise. I wonder if he really took in how well I take care of myself, how I’m slightly larger than him, how he has to look up, just a fraction, to meet my eyes.

“How did you find me?”

I lean in close, amused at the defensive anger in his eyes. “Baby, seriously?”

“Let me go”

“Not a chance. How about you call me Alpha, and I will reward you?”

He shudders when I say alpha and sways just a fraction towards me. My scent of smooth bourbon is filling his lungs, and I see the moment his eyes glaze and how hard he’s fighting the pull.

His fingers slide over the curves of my shoulder. Hesitant. He trembles.

Then he shoves me back, fighting to break my hold.

“Let me go.”

I laugh low in my throat and then get really serious. “Never.”

I grab him and shove him towards the party. It’s all very romantic and sweet, and I have him in my arms, and she can’t have him.

Somehow, he’s going to be mine.

He fights me every step of the way, and then we’re there, and I lose patience, growling.

To my utter delight, he lets out a sound like he’s wounded and stops fighting.

“Good boy.”

Harvest, my Hayden, turns bright red and shuffles on the spot.

Oh, he is adorable.

I watch him run and hide behind the new pack and especially the sunshine omega who is nothing like what he needs.

Our eyes meet, and I think I see understanding in hers before she looks down coyly, holding court.

He’s not hers, it’s clear to see, to both of us.

He’s mine.

He stops me before I can ruin their date, throwing me into the sand and pinning me there with a forearm against my throat.

It is incredibly hot.

“Hello, darling. I finally got your attention.”

He snarls, his eyes flicking back and forth between mine.

“What do you want?”

I grab his head, drag him down, and kiss him hard enough that I lose track of everything but the intoxicating taste of him and the need to have more.

He wrenches free, gasping, looking down at me with wide eyes.

“I think it’s obvious, don’t you?”

He climbs off me and runs.
