I have to find Felix.
His nest is empty but destroyed. Utterly, hideously, soul-wrenchingly destroyed. Like an omega who has just been hurt so badly he might never recover. I walk through the mess, trying to find a clue of where he might have gone. There’s nothing.
I leave it and run to the Sol house. I bang on the door, banging, banging, banging. Ignoring the shouts, ignoring everything until the door is wrenched open. I shove my way in, searching. Using all my senses.
He’s not here.
I collapse against the open door, sobbing for air with lungs that feel like air has suddenly turned to water.
“Jace, it’s going to be okay. We’ll find him. I have people looking,” Lorelei says, and when I look up, she’s crying. “We didn’t know. I promise, Jace, we had no idea. We’ll find him. I can’t believe Khione and Harvest are to be bonded. This whole time, under our noses.”
“Them,” I croak out. “They’re all gone. It’s just me.” I collapse to my knees, but Franco pulls me up and into his arms.
“We’re family now. No matter what happens or who ends up with whom. You are a Sol, and we’ve got you. So, chin up, it’s not over.”
I stare at the floor, and then Lorelei’s words hit hard. “Harvest? Khione is promised to Harvest? No, they don’t like each other like that.” Relief slides through me. There is no way she’s going through with that. Oh, this isn’t terrible. He won’t force her.
I start to laugh as I push myself up to my feet.
“Harvest? What a relief.”
I take a deep, calming breath as Sebastian and Sofia slam into the house, followed by their packs.
“She left? She actually left? Where is Felix?” Sebastian shouts.
“Where’s Clint?” Sofia snarls.
“What about Zaire?” Devon says.
The questions I keep asking myself over and over shouted out loud by Sol’s. Where is my pack?
I stagger towards the door and down the steps and start running. Zaire’s first. I head there, but when I get there, the house is almost in lock down. I can’t get in. He’s not answering.
“Spectre!” I roar. “Spectre, speak.”
The dog howls from inside.
I found one. He needs me. I slam into the door. Over and over until it finally breaks, and I shove it open, climbing over the mess and into the dark.
I find Zaire curled up on the floor, his arms locked around his legs. Spectre is plastered to him.
“Okay, Zaire. It’s just me. You’re okay. We’re not going to quit this quickly, are we?” I ask him. “She needs us; she’s never going to be happy with that tattooed idiot. In fact, she’ll probably remove all his teeth before she lets him bond her, you know that. This is Khione we’re talking about.”
He blinks at me and shifts a bit.
My phone rings, I pull it out and answer it.
“We found Clint. He’s on the beach.”
“Zaire, get up. We found Clint, he’s back. Let’s go get him.”
He doesn’t move. I stagger to him and grab his jaw, yanking his head up so he’s staring at me.
“Get off your ass and move. There’s people who are in trouble. Your omega needs you.”
“My omega is gone.”
I shake him hard until his teeth rattle, pulling him upright by sheer force of will.
