He shakes his head. “Wrong son. His brother Ricardo works at the airport, driving one of the busses. We traced him when we questioned one of the women he picked up off the street. She gave us information regarding his car, and we were able to trace it and find his address.”
I’m in shock. I’m aware that Rosita has two sons, but she always told me the eldest son lived in Florida.
“Are you sure it’s her son? I mean, she told me Ricardo lived in Florida and worked at the airport in Miami.”
“He did. He transferred over to LAX three months ago. We checked with the cops and there are some unsolved crimes matching this profile. The cops are working together to compare notes.”
“Are you saying he’s done this before, in Miami?”
“As well as New York, Denver and Boston.”
I slump back against the seat, my mind buzzing with the information.
“Does Rosita know?”
“She was there when they arrested him.”
“She would be. I’m not at home. I gave her the time off.”
Tears blind me as I picture her grief. Rosita loves her sons. She idolizes them both, and this must be like a knife in her heart.
“I should go to her. Reassure her.”
He shakes his head. “She is in safe hands. Her sister is with her, and we have assured her of our help.”
“Thank you.”
Now it’s sinking in, I’m exhausted. Relieved and hating my reaction to that. Maria and Rosita are going through hell and I’m just grateful that my stalker is behind bars.
“Sophie.”
His gentle tone draws my attention and as I look at him, fire burns in his eyes.
“I will always protect you. You know that.”
He reaches up and his finger drifts down my face, causing me to shiver inside. I’m lost in the madness. It’s almost as if he’s Angel. There is nothing but his eye color to tell me any different, and he cups my face in his hands and whispers, “Do you trust me?”
“Of course.”
I nod, my heart fluttering, but something about this is wrong. He shouldn’t be touching me. He’s not Angel. Hell, he’s not Jason, and my mind is already swinging like a pendulum between the two of them. There is no room in my life for any more freaking pendulums, so I pull away, shifting along the seat and speaking a lot clearer.
“So, what happens now?”
“You go about your day. The cops will be in no hurry to make their case, and you have a mission this weekend, anyway. Rosita will not expect a visit from you, and the only one you may receive is from the cops. Tell them what you know, but that is all. Keep The Wild Angels out of it. They are already aware of our involvement in the case, but not with you. It must stay that way.”
I nod, breathing deeply as I attempt to regain composure.
“I should get back to the studio. I’m late already.”
“Of course.”
He opens the door and heads back to the driver’s seat, and I exhale in relief. For a moment back there, I wanted him to kiss me. Another Angel. What is wrong with me?
But he’s not Angel. He’s not Jason and I am trying to figure out my feelings concerning them, let alone another masked stranger, to confuse me.
No, it ends now. I’m a one-man woman, I always was and it may not be my decision, anyway. They may both reject me and I would deserve it. This weekend is a gift from God because if at the end of it, I’m not calling Jason Prince my boyfriend, I know my answer.
It’s him, or Angel. It’s up to me to decide and if nothing happens, then I’ll carry on as before. Alone, in my gilded cage, dreaming of a masked man and a billionaire fucking me at the same time. It’s not a bad fantasy to live with as I carry on – business as usual.
