“Good?”

He nodded. “I haven’t had this in a long time. I told you, you’re my light. Anything about my parents reminds me of the darkest days of my life, but when you’re involved, you keep the shadows at bay.”

“I still feel like I fucked up by making this today.”

He pulled my hands to his chest, and I felt his heartbeat. “You didn’t fuck up. Never,” he reassured me and kissed my hand.

“Nolan?”

“Yeah?”

“If we have a girl, can we name her Norah?”

He stared at me for a moment. “Really?” he croaked out, and he did that ‘tough man’ thing where he pretended he didn’t cry. He did the same thing when I gave him that cheesy beer glass. Nolan was a big, grumpy bear who clearly needed to work on his communication skills, but it was so cute to see him fight back the emotions.

I nodded. “Yeah. I really like that name.”

“You wouldn’t want to name her after your mom?”

I made a face. “I’m not naming my baby ‘Mary,’ that’s so boring.”

“How about Norah Mary MacGregor?”

Now it was my turn to fight back the tears. “I—my mom would have loved that,” I croaked out. “I miss her so much some days. She would be over the moon if she knew.”

Nolan reached and squeezed my hand. “If we have a girl, we can name her after both of our moms. And we’ll tell her all about them.”

The burly man beside me smiled, but tears leaked from his eyelids, and I wiped them away. I never thought I would see Nolan MacGregor shed tears over the idea of naming his daughter after his mother. He continued to surprise me.

“Nolan?”

“Yeah, baby?”

“Will you tell me more about her? About your dad too?”

“Okay,” he whispered.

It surprised me when he opened up to me and told me about his parents. Once he started, he couldn’t stop. I never thought Nolan would gush out every feeling he ever had when we came up to the cabin for our honeymoon. It was the best idea Gemma ever had. I owed her big time.

Chapter Twenty-Two

NOLAN

“Well, look who it is!” my brother teased me as I walked into the brewery for the first time in a week. I couldn’t remember the last time I had been away that long. Probably never.

I couldn’t even muster the energy to flip him the bird; that’s how sated Avery kept me up in the Poconos last week. I hadn’t realized how much pressure had been weighing me down until she told me we were a team. Relaxing at the cabin had been exactly what I needed.

All the sex helped, too. We had so much sex on our honeymoon, maybe too much. We did it on the couch in front of the fire, all over the main bedroom, and even in the kitchen one night. Sometimes Avery wanted to ‘play lumberjack,’ which I obliged. Who knew she was into roleplaying? Not me, but I didn’t hate it. Not one bit.

It was the best Christmas I had since my parents died. Probably in my entire life. She really was the Queen of Christmas. She brought the magic of the holiday back to life for me.

I took my jacket off and hung it up behind the door in the office. I took a seat across from my brother, who was behind his desk, staring at his computer screen.

“How are sales looking?” I asked.

“You worry about the beer, okay? I got this,” he reassured me.

I narrowed my eyes. “Declan…”
