Leading the pack members to the gymnasium’s exit, she noticed the eager ones trotting close at her heels. Some of them panted eagerly, others whined anxiously, but none stayed back except Chelsea, Mark, and a couple of alphas.

Kira smiled to herself. She hadn’t even gotten around to asking the pack to join her.

She didn’t have to.

Her powers and strength were all it took for the Poplarin Pack to be disbanded. They weren’t quite her pack yet, but they were ready for a new leader—and she was ready to lead them.

“How’d it go?” Nathaniel asked, pushing himself off the wall.

Kira gestured at the crowd of wolves filing out behind her. “As you can see.”

“Indeed,” Nathaniel murmured. “Very impressive.”

Kira turned to Headmaster Arken, who had been waiting outside with Nathaniel at Susie’s behest.

“The alphas are all yours, headmaster. And Susie’s inside with the first years. You should also know that there’s a first year vampire too… he’s tied up, and he doesn’t look like he’s in good shape.”

“Tied up?” Arken snapped. He scraped his silvered hair back angrily as he stalked inside the building.

Kira wondered if he would expel the alphas for breaking school rules, or simply suspend them. Either way, she had a gut-wrenching feeling that he would feed on every single one tonight.

While privy to the alphas’ thoughts, Kira had been mortified to discover that they had indeed been holding Devon prisoner as a sick form of revenge against vampires in general. It was revenge of the worst kind—an eye for eye mentality, which would only create suffering with no hope of improving life for either race.

Even worse, the alphas had captured Devon two days ago and kept him locked in a storage room backstage.

“What’s wrong?” Nathaniel murmured, touching her hand which had curled into a fist.

Kira’s nostrils flared. “I think both sides are really messed up—vampires, and wolves.”

“Good thing we’ll have you to steer us on a better course.”

She harrumphed. “Yes, well…I can see I’ll have my work cut out for me. It’s going to take a miracle to unfuck everything your father has done.”

Nathaniel nodded gravely. “Indeed.”

Chapter 33

Tied Together

Kira

Nathaniel’s joint birthday, wedding, and coronation at Wintermaw Keep was looming close, which meant their time together would soon come to an end. He still didn’t have a bride—something they would rectify tonight when they visited Gloria.

Kira didn’t know exactly how Nathaniel wanted her to help in convincing the vampiress to accept his proposal, but she had a suspicion. Everything he’d told her about Gloria painted a picture of a compassionless woman that Kira would have probably been better off not knowing.

And then he’d unveiled a shocking revelation: that Gloria was her half sister.

Kira wasn’t sure how she felt about that. She’d always thought her own family was Byron and Mary, so to discover she had a half sister…

She wanted to be excited by that. To be overjoyed. Though she hadn’t even met Gloria yet.

And I’m plotting with Nathaniel to help trap her in marriage with him.

Nathaniel’s answers to her questions about his plan for the evening had been cryptic, although it was obvious it would involve coercion of some nature. She’d pressed him for information as they got dressed in his room, but he seemed uncomfortable with the subject.

That makes two of us.

The thought of Nathaniel marrying her half sister was strange and confusing, but she would have felt more distraught if the whole situation didn’t seem so surreal.
