“You too. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
I glance at Jay.
He gives me a look that very clearly says don’t ask me.
I turn back to Shane. “Good things, I hope.”
“Mostly.”
Jay groans from behind him.
Shane chuckles and drops into the chair across from me.
“So,” he says, leaning forward, “you own Whistler’s.”
“I do.”
“You bought it three years ago, right?”
“Yes… Did Jay tell you that?”
Shane looks between us, genuinely confused. “Why would he need to tell me?”
“It’s just a little weird that you know so much about me.”
“It’s not weird.”
“You looked me up?” I ask, finally connecting the dots. Of course he did. He’s a fucking police detective. It’s probably the first thing he did after finding out I was dating his brother.
“Obviously.” He says it so casually that I actually laugh.
“I’m dating your brother, not applying for a security clearance.”
Shane shrugs. “Same difference.”
That gets a deep belly laugh out of me.
Jay walks back into the living room with a glass of wine and takes the seat beside me. “Don’t encourage him.”
“So,” Shane says, turning his attention back to me, “how did you two meet?”
Jay immediately points at him. “No.”
Shane looks at him. “What?”
“Don’t start.”
“I asked one question.”
“You asked one question that you already know the answer to.”
“Maybe.”
I glance between them, amused. “I don’t mind.”
Jay turns toward me. “You don’t know what you’re agreeing to.”
“I think I can handle a few questions.”
