Give me five minutes and I’ll destroy everything.

What will the magazines say about her in the future?

She was beautiful and pure—until him.

The destroyer of all good things dug his claws into her and left her in a broken mess.

Some monsters come in pretty packages. To the eyes, I’m a beautiful man, but to a true heart, I’m an ugly fucking disaster.

Chapter Four

MIA

I swallow past the lump in my throat as I try to feel nothing for him. Jett Black is a dangerous man, especially for someone like me. I’ve stayed far from him for years because after some time together, I felt something. Something I couldn’t afford to. I was falling for him, so I pulled away. He’s a one-man wrecking crew, and I don’t want to be left in the ashes when he burns his entire life to the ground.

I have never touched a single drug in my life. It sounds like a miserable existence. Cruel words fall from my mouth before I have the chance to think.

“You’re a junkie. Get help.”

If the drugs affect him at all, it doesn’t show, as he charges over to me like an angry bull. Placing his hands on the wall on either side of my head, he lowers his head as he stares at me, Jett’s face less than an inch from mine. His eyes are dark, filled with anger, and a chill runs down my spine.

“I don’t like the word junkie, Angel. When you say that, it sounds like you’re saying I’m worthless. And that’s not very nice.”

My skin prickles as his eyes drop to my lips before traveling down to my breasts. He stares at me like a wild animal looks at its next meal, and suddenly I feel naked instead of fully clothed.

“Call me that again, and I promise you’ll regret it. I’m not a good guy, Angel. I do bad things, and I really want to do bad things to you. I want to hurt you. Make you cry. It would be wise not to give me a reason to do the things I fucking crave.”

Dropping his face to the crook of my neck, he runs his nose along my skin, inhaling with a groan. An embarrassing moan slips past my lips, and he chuckles softly against my flesh.

“That’s right, Angel. Your pain is mine. You are mine.”

Pulling back from me slightly, he stares at me with an intensity I feel to my very core.

“I’m not yours, Jett. I never will be.”

It’s not that I’m not attracted to him. I am. Any woman with eyes would be. Jett Black is hot as hell. Dark hair that’s long enough to run your fingers through but short enough that it’s respectable. Eyes equally dark and mysterious, like you’ll never read what’s going through his mind. A chiseled jaw with a dimple on the right cheek when he gives the rare smile. His arms are muscular, and I assume the rest of his body is too. He’s gorgeous, but I’m smart enough to know better than to get involved with a drug addict.

Stepping back, he walks into my bedroom, grabs my suitcase, and nearly growls.

“Let’s go.”

The entire drive to the airport, he was quiet. Uncomfortably so. As we sit on the plane, that hasn’t changed, but when he finally speaks, his voice comes out husky and raw like I somehow hurt him.

“I have wanted you since the moment I laid eyes on you at that award show, Mia. How many times have I asked you out? Fucking countless, and you always turn me down. Make me understand. Am I a fucking ogre?”

“No,” I snort-laugh because it’s ridiculous. Jett knows how hot he is. And if he ever has a doubt, the women who throw themselves at his feet nightly will remind him.

He gazes at me with an arched brow. Even the eyebrow piercing is hot, and it annoys me.

“Then what is it, Angel? Never have I wanted anything as much as I want you.”

Taking a sip of my wine, I set it on the tray table and stare at him incredulously. Does he seriously not know?

“Do you want me more than you want drugs, Jett? Because that’s the cost. As long as you’re using, I'll never be yours.”

Reaching up, he strokes his fingers down my cheek. I close my eyes, enjoying the feeling of his rough touch.
