“You’re not used to pain, so you’re not trained to handle it. You don’t look like anything special. You’re not the military. So, what are you?”

Gus started to rummage through the men’s belongings, and Venom decided to add a little more pressure to the wound.

“Karamazov!” The man screamed the name. “Vincent Karamazov started the organization twenty years ago. He was kicked out of the Bortova Bratva for not being pure enough.”

“Pure?” Venom asked.

“His father was Bratva, his mother was a whore, but he was raised in his father’s house. Only, he got to keep his father’s last name, but he had a shit upbringing. He would sit on the sidelines and watch the Bortova and his family—the fear they would instill in others. They used others to get what they wanted, and then one day, he snapped, and when he snapped, he did so by wiping out the whole Bortova Bratva.”

Venom hated this Vincent Karamazov, but it also made sense. The kind of destruction these men create had to come from a feeling of revenge and resentment.

“Please, I need medical assistance,” the man said.

“So, how did he recruit teams?” Venom asked.

“Rejects,” Gus said, holding out a wallet, and Venom took it to read the name on the driver’s license.

“Adam Dekus?” Venom read out the name. “Don’t have a clue who he is.”

“He tried out for the Evil Dwellers MC, just as you got sentenced. He had a temper on him and believed he was the only one loyal enough to make it up to a fully patched member. Maverick didn’t like that he left a man behind to take the fall. He was a piece of work. A selfish bastard.”

“So, the Karamazov is made up of a bunch of men that didn’t make it into their little gang, so they formed their own and go around trying to kill the ones that wouldn’t have them.”

“We train,” the man in front of him said. “We hunt. We learn everything we need to know, and we come and hurt you. We hunt you.”

Venom looked at him. “Consider me hunted,” Venom said, then pulled out a knife and imbedded it in the man’s leg. The screams echoed around the room.

Within a matter of minutes, the man was begging for his life, and all he was doing was exactly what he heard they did. He was playing “poke the flesh,” to see which parts made him scream.

Gus had finally stopped complaining about how he used his methods, and that was a relief. By the time he finally killed the man, his ears were ringing.

“We’ve got to call Maverick, make him aware of the situation so he can pass it on to the Romano Mafia. It should help them, what we know.”

Venom’s cell phone started to ring as he was cleaning his hands from the blood. The cloth was not helping, and he ignored the call, and instead walked into the bathroom and began to wash his hands in the sink.

The call had gone to voicemail. Once his hands were no longer red, slicked, or stained with blood, he reached into his pocket and instantly regretted it, as he saw it was Morwenna that had left him a message. He had to click through his cell phone to find where his voicemail messages were, and one word sent the hairs on the back of his spine on end, and he felt sick to his stomach.

“Help!” Morwenna begged him faintly.

Chapter Nineteen

Morwenna was dying.

She felt so dizzy, even while lying on the ground. This was not how she wanted her life to end, on the side of the road, heading toward her parents’ home.

She’d left the hospital and was about to climb into her car, which had been brought to the hospital from Star’s apartment building. Just as she was about to get inside, she’d been attacked. There had been one guy, one of the Karamazov, who’d played security guard at the hospital. The uniform told her what she needed to know. He smacked her head against the door opening and shoved her inside the car.

She’d been dizzy and nearly threw up, but she was able to keep what little she had left in her stomach. This day was turning into one of the worst of her life.

He’d been so intent on driving, glancing down at his cell phone, that he’d not watched her wake up. She stayed still until she attacked him. It wasn’t her finest move, attacking him in a fast-moving car. Then, without a seatbelt and with the car moving, then suddenly spinning, Morwenna didn’t know how it happened, but she was thrown from the car and landed on the soft grass verge.

What didn’t help was the piece of glass that was thrust into her side. She felt it and knew she couldn’t move it, but her assailant also wasn’t dead. Even as her body screamed for her to sit and wait, the incoming attack was not going to let her. She got to her knees, then to her feet, and tried to run away, but she couldn’t outrun him. She was in a great deal of pain, and rather than run, she had turned around and started to attack him.

The man had a knife, and all Morwenna had was a piece of glass that was inside her. Even as he attempted to stab her, he only got the blade of the knife to slice across her middle, and that was painful.

She didn’t know if she was going to survive, but screamed as she went in for the kill, which was not the first or second time this night. She pulled the glass out and shoved it right back in, then she just lost focus as the need to survive took over. She didn’t want to die, and she knew that was a real chance.

The man collapsed to the floor, dead, or if he wasn’t dead, he was going to be in a matter of moments, as she collapsed onto the ground and put a hand to her stomach.
