Morwenna looked toward the kitchen. She knew her mother wouldn’t want her to go, but she also didn’t see the problem dealing with Star.

“Tell me what is going on?”

“Bolt came to drop Kyle off last night, and they were both sick. He wasn’t able to leave, and I don’t know what to do, and I know I should just call an ambulance, but Bolt seemed to be really irrational, and please, you’re the only one he wants me to call. Please, please, please.”

“Fine,” Morwenna said, snapping out the word. “I’ll be there.”

Morwenna looked at her target practice, but it wasn’t just Bolt that was throwing up, it was Kyle. She didn’t know why Star wasn’t just calling the club, and Morwenna frowned as she got to her car. Why weren’t Star and Kyle at the clubhouse? Did they not see the danger? Morwenna growled, and she figured it was such a Bolt thing to do, not wanting his kids or Star there, just in case she would have to be on lockdown as well.

It was the only explanation she could come up with, and as she took off, driving toward the apartment block, where she’d gone with Venom to look for a place to live, she parked and was shocked to see Star outside waiting for her. She never realized how thin Star was, and her face looked pale. She was completely void of makeup. She looked almost like a skeleton. Morwenna would have to talk to Storm about taking proper care of Star. She and Bolt were over, but Star was still the mother to his children.

“Thank God you came, all he was doing was saying your name as he collapsed onto the ground. I’ve been so scared, but I knew you would come,” Star said, leading her onto the elevator.

Morwenna looked at Star, and considering Bolt was on the floor, writhing in agony, there was a chance her son was also ill.

“How is Kyle?” Morwenna asked.

“Huh?” Star asked.

“On the phone, you mentioned that Bolt and Kyle were ill.”

“Oh, yes, of course, uh, Kyle is in the same position as Bolt, you know how it is,” Star said, looking down at her nails.

It was then Morwenna realized she had been an idiot. In her jacket pocket was her cell phone, and she started to work the numbers, hoping she got the right combination that would get her to her father or Venom.

Only, the elevator doors opened, and her suspicions were confirmed as two men, one of them the real estate agent from yesterday, and the other, a guy she had never seen before.

“Oh, did I tell you?” Star asked. “I might have lied.” She let out a little chuckle. “She’s all yours, boys.”

Morwenna didn’t have a chance to fight as they grabbed her arms, but she kept her cell phone in her jacket by zipping up the pocket. She distracted them by launching herself at them. They were not expecting her to attack, and she was able to draw her knee into the balls of one, then punch the other guy in the face. All the years her father had been training her, he told her to always make sure you never give them a chance to throw the first punch.

She kicked, clawed, screamed, and fought with all her might. However, it was not enough as she tried to run out of the elevator to get to the stairs, and someone ran into her legs, stopping her from being able to move. She was punched in the gut, and she grunted. Another blow landed to her back, and she let out a scream as they gripped her hair tightly and began to pull her. She had no choice but to follow them, and she was thrown into the living room, where there were three more men. She was tossed to the ground, and she stayed perfectly still, unable to move.

“Well, well, well,” one guy said.

Morwenna opened her eyes and looked straight ahead. It was someone she did not recognize. She’d never seen him before, and there was nothing noticeable about him. Nothing that would scream this man was a monster. He wasn’t tall nor short, fat nor thin. He was a forgettable kind of man. She looked around, and she saw that was exactly what all the men were like. They were not remembered. Easy to see and thank in the street, or to say “excuse me.” Not anyone you would remember on your way to work.

“Didn’t I do well?” Star asked. “I told you I could get her for you. I told you I could get them.” Star let out a moan. “Please let me have some more. I need some more. Please, please, please.”

Morwenna watched as the man reached out and stroked Star’s face. “You have been a very good girl. You’ve given me what I want, and that is all I asked of you.”

Star let out a giggle.

She screamed Star’s name as she saw the knife, but a second later, it was imbedded into Star’s abdomen. He pulled out, but he wasn’t done, and she watched as the knife blurred with the actions of his movements, as he thrust it in hard and deep.

Blood spilled to the floor, covering his hand, and he didn’t stop. One of the other men held Star within his grip, as the man unleashed his violence. She didn’t have a clue how many times he stabbed her, but there was nothing left, and Star fell to the floor.

Morwenna couldn’t believe what she had just witnessed. The food she’d eaten that morning came up, and she pressed her hands onto the ground as she vomited on the floor.

“Disgusting.”

Morwenna screamed as her face was pressed against the vomit, and then she was pulled once again by her hair. There were no further sounds, but she was thrown into a bedroom, and the door locked.

Her heart raced, and she quickly used the blanket to wipe her face. She was clearly in Star’s bedroom, and she freaked out as a hand suddenly dropped off the edge of the bed. Scrambling away, she let out a scream, only to quickly cover her mouth, as she looked at the bed.

Was someone else dead?

What if it was Bolt?
