All the time, he thought about Morwenna and how sad she’d looked. It hadn’t been his intention to hurt her. He ran a hand down his face.

“I figured you would still be out here,” Maverick said, taking a drink out of a bottle of whiskey and handing it to him.

He took the bottle, had a small swig, and relished the burn he didn’t actually need, and proceeded to hand it back to him.

“What are you doing?” Maverick asked.

“Watching. Waiting. It’s what they’re going to do. Drive us crazy, until they finally strike. Have you heard from Romano?” Venom asked.

“No, I’ve not heard a word in days.”

“That’s not good,” Venom said.

“I was going to try to keep a positive attitude about the situation.”

Venom smirked, but there was no positive attitude to take for this situation. There was only ... waiting. Silence fell between them, and other than the crackling of the fire and the murmur of voices, there were no other sounds.

“Have you talked to David?” Maverick asked.

“Yes, this morning. I intend to go over there tomorrow.”

“Why wait?” Maverick asked.

Venom turned to look at his Prez. “You want me to go now?”

“We can go now,” Maverick said. “Doing something has got to be better than sitting around on our asses.”

“What about the club?” Venom asked.

“All the guys know what to do, and I need to get out of this clubhouse before I completely lose my mind and start killing people. Especially my son, seeing as he’s back to his old ways and fucking Star.”

Venom didn’t care about Bolt, however, he needed to sign those divorce papers, and he told Maverick as such.

“I know. Trust me, I’ll get him to sign them. I thought he would grow up from this, but it seems that boy is determined not to grow up at all. There is only so much you can do for him. Now, it’s on him.”

Venom moved toward the gate and pulled it open. Maverick was the first to ride through, and Venom joined him. Diesel was finally there to close the gate behind them, and he waved them off. Venom took the lead seeing as he knew the direction he was going.

The ride didn’t take too long, as it was dark, and there was not a lot of traffic on the roads. Maverick kept up with him, and Venom stayed on alert just in case there was someone on their tail.

They arrived at the safe house, owned by the club. The house was in an alias name, not linked to the club, and usually one of their guys outside the club handled all the paperwork, and was paid a small fee to keep the place quiet.

The moment they arrived, Venom saw the lights were off. It was a little after nine, and David had rambled that he didn’t get a lot of sleep, and also something about hating the dark, and he liked to keep the light on.

Venom gave the warning to Maverick that something wasn’t right, and he pulled out his gun. He looked around the street, and there were no discernable signs that anyone was here. He wasn’t happy with what he couldn’t see. Looking up and down the street, Maverick was a few feet away from him.

“I don’t like this,” Venom said.

“Maybe he went to bed early.”

“He doesn’t like the dark.”

“An odd thing to say, but okay, I guess not everyone is happy with the dark,” Maverick said.

“Something’s not right.”

They made their way up the driveway, and that was when Venom saw the little sheet of paper, with the words, Come inside.

“That’s not spooky at all,” Maverick said.
