“If she comes to the club, she’s as good as dead,” Venom said.
“This is not how it’s supposed to go. You’re all acting afraid.”
Venom turned. “I’m not afraid. I’m a realist. Our enemies have just become fucking ghosts to us. We don’t know who we’re fighting. They don’t have any marks. All we know is they leave blood and mess wherever they go. Carnage is left behind, with no one to answer for it. It’s time you started to face the reality of what is going on, because trust me, right now, none of this is good.”
He climbed on his bike. “The safest place for Morwenna right now is with her parents.”
Venom turned over his ignition and took off. Bolt moved out of his way, but he didn’t go straight to their home. He took a quick detour and arrived at Willow and Gus’s home. There is only one other person he could trust to take care of her—Gus, her father.
If she came to the clubhouse, and the Karamazov came, Morwenna would be dead. He couldn’t live with himself to be selfish. She was out of the club, now he just needed Bolt to sign those fucking papers. He climbed off his bike and was heading up the steps to their house, when the door opened. Gus was there, with a shotgun.
Venom looked at him. “We need to talk.”
“What do you want?”
“I need you to take care of Morwenna.”
“Honey, what is going on?” Willow asked, coming to the door.
“Go back inside, sweetheart. I’m just talking with Venom here.”
“No, you’re not going to send me away. Do you think I can’t tell this is serious? Well, I can, and I know this is going to mess everything up, so please don’t push me aside,” Willow said. “What is going on?”
Venom turned to Gus, and the man in front of him looked a little exasperated, but clearly knew his wife was not going to give up.
“There’s a threat coming to the club,” Venom said. “It’s going to be bad. We can take her to the club, but there is a high risk she will not make it. If she stays here, there is a risk they’ll come for her here.”
“What risk?” Gus asked.
“The Karamazov.”
From the look on Gus’s face, he had heard of them.
“You’re kidding.”
“I wish I was.”
“So why are you here telling me this, and not Bolt or Maverick?”
“I’m going to ... hurt her,” Venom said. “I need to make sure she cuts all ties with the club.”
“Hurt her?” Willow asked. “What are you going to do?”
He looked at Gus. “I will not hurt her physically, but I need her to get the hell away from the club.”
Gus stared at him for several minutes. In the background, Willow was verging on hysterical.
“Willow, go back inside.” The tone of Gus’s voice did not encourage any kind of argument.
Willow looked like she wanted to argue, but instead she threw her hands up in the air, then disappeared inside.
“I will be spending the evening on the sofa.”
“You’re going to need to follow me. Give me an hour,” Venom said.
“You’re in love with my daughter, aren’t you?” Gus asked.
“She is the best woman I have ever known. I love her. I want to spend the rest of my life with her, and yes, if you’re wondering, we have slept together.”
