“I don’t know. I’m not angry all the time when I look at him, and it doesn’t hurt as much.” She shrugged.
“Do you want to get back together with him?” he asked.
“No, hell, no. Absolutely not. I don’t trust him and I think all relationships should have a level of trust. I thought he and I were on that level, but it was all just a lie, and I can’t get past that.” She sighed. “I’m finding it hard with my friends as well. They all knew. Ruth, Katherine, Izzy, they all knew.”
He frowned.
She chuckled. “They’re other old ladies and when we had girls’ night, they’re who I considered my friends. We all had biker husbands.” She sighed. “I was always there for them, and yet, not even a hint. Doesn’t that mean they cared more about Star?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know. I wasn’t there.”
She shook her head and then laughed. “You know what? Let’s not talk about me, instead, let us talk about you. That is what is important. You’ve been back home now a long time, and you didn’t get much of a coming home present. How about you and I go out this Friday? We see if we can try and pick you up a date.”
That was what she needed to do. Venom was her friend. They were good friends, and this afternoon was just a lot of fun and didn’t mean anything. She needed to find him someone. He’d been in prison for five years, there had to be a woman out there that he wanted.
“A date?” Venom asked.
“Yeah, you and me, going out on Friday. We can party, and dance, and I can find you a woman.” She winked at him.
“Are you trying to encourage me to bring a woman back to our place?” he asked.
“It’s your home as well, and as long as she doesn’t steal anything, it will all be good.” She was not going to go down this route with Venom. She had sworn off dating, and besides, until Bolt signed the divorce papers, she was not free.
They were separated, and had been for over a year now. She didn’t know when he was going to sign those papers. At the sound of the doorbell ringing, she frowned and got to her feet. “I’ll go.”
“Did you order pizza?” Venom asked.
She checked through the security hole and saw it was Bolt at her door. She hadn’t even heard the sound of his bike. Unbolting the locks, she opened the door.
“I’m so sorry,” he said.
She looked behind him with a frown. “Where’s your car?”
“I didn’t bring it.”
“Bolt, you have three kids.”
“My mom hasn’t been by to collect them?” he asked.
“No, why would your mother...” she stopped. “Seriously, do you not care about them at all?”
“Of course I do, but they’re Star’s responsibility.”
“They’re your kids. You’re their father, and that makes them your responsibility as well.” She shook her head. What the hell is the matter with you?” she asked.
“If you want, they could be our kids,” he said.
Morwenna’s mouth fell open.
“You’re a good mother, Morwenna. I knew you would be.”
“And yet, you made sure I couldn’t have any of your kids, by giving me birth control, while claiming they were vitamins.” She shook her head. “I can’t believe you.”
“Look, I know I’ve made a couple of mistakes in the past, and I’m learning from them. I promise I am. We can make this work. I can make Star go away, and we can have the three kids, and she doesn’t need to be in any part of their lives.”
Morwenna couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Once again, Bolt clearly thought he could talk his way out of this trouble. That was what he always thought he could do.
Before she got the chance to say anything, Venom moved up behind her.
