She took a deep breath, then her parents knocked on the door and she gave a little jolt. “Yes, please, yes.”
“Consider it done. I’ll go and grab a bunch of my stuff and I’ll take the bedroom next to yours.”
“Next to mine?” she asked.
“That way you know I’m close if you start freaking out,” he said.
The thought of Morwenna panicking was something he couldn’t stand. She was a nice woman, a good woman, she didn’t deserve to suffer. He was pissed off that he hadn’t caught the signs of her fear beforehand.
He opened the front door and came face to face with Gus. He nodded at him, then smiled at Willow before heading out to his own truck.
This was going to be a strange arrangement, seeing as he’d never lived with a woman, apart from foster parents growing up, but he didn’t consider them real women. Some of them had been horrible.
It was only when coming to the club that he truly got to see a few good women. Gus and Willow didn’t keep him, so he made his way toward his truck, climbing inside, and taking off, going the fastest route back to the main clubhouse.
He didn’t want to end up having to do some kind of club business on the first night.
Morwenna looked genuinely terrified at the thought of staying home alone. This could be a real fuckup on his part, because they were becoming friends. He’d never had a girl that was a friend. Again, he had some serious trust issues, and he accepted that. To him, most women were manipulative bitches, with a few random women that were actually good.
Arriving at the clubhouse, he watched Rose and Diesel making out along the main wall. He ignored them, because they’d been married for nearly twenty years, had a couple of kids, and were always in some kind of embrace. It probably didn’t help that Diesel had been away for the past two weeks. Once again, doing a club run, but that didn’t stop the couple. Even as he arrived, they didn’t stop and would probably end up fucking against the wall.
Climbing out of his truck, he made his way inside the main clubhouse. There were a couple of the club women, no sign of any old ladies, a few guys, but for the most part, it was pretty much dead. He made his way across the main clubhouse, going toward the main rooms, and then his own room, pulling out a key.
Any door that wasn’t locked tended to be fair game to nearly everyone, and he didn’t like anyone fucking in his bed. When he’d been in prison, he’d given the key to Maverick, and he’d been the one to arrange the cleaning of his room. It all had to be supervised, as he didn’t like people messing with his shit.
Once he entered his room, he grabbed a bag and started unloading his clothes from the closet. He didn’t have a lot of possessions. In his thirty-five years, all he had were a few clothes, some underwear, and other than that, he didn’t buy shit.
His money had accumulated as he either went to the local library, or played pool downstairs with the rest of the guys.
“Are you heading out on the road?” Jo asked.
She was a club woman, and she liked to be passed around. She happened to enjoy being a branded club woman. Owned by no one but the club.
“Fuck off,” he said.
Jo had been trying to get him into bed, but he wasn’t interested. He’d never been interested in any of the women that just appeared around the clubhouse.
Ignoring her, after a few minutes, she decided to leave, which he was more than happy about.
Once his bag was packed, he made his way outside, just as Maverick returned. “Is there something you want to tell me?” he asked.
“I’m going to be living with Morwenna for a time,” he said.
Maverick tensed up.
“Morwenna?”
“Yeah, she’s got a pretty big place, and seeing as it’s large and I’ve never had my own place, I’m going to help out where I need to.”
“Do I need to worry about this?” he asked.
“No,” he said.
“Bolt—”
“She’s trying to divorce him and—”
“And he’s fighting to win her back,” Maverick said.
