They didn’t go back to her parents’ house. She saw the sign that stated they were leaving Dwellers Point, and she didn’t care. Right now, she needed out of that town.

Venom kept driving. Morwenna didn’t know how long they were driving for. Eventually, he pulled over to a small diner. There were several cars parked in the lot, and Venom told her to wait in the car.

She pulled down the visor and looked at her reflection. The tears had dried up, but her eyes were puffy and red. She felt a little sick. Taking a deep breath, she watched as minutes later, Venom came back and carried food with him.

“Meatball subs and more fries, this time with a spicy cheese and sweet bacon,” he said.

“You’re always looking for food, aren’t you?” she asked.

“I’m a hungry kind of man.” He winked at her.

She took the meatball sub from him and unwrapped it, but she didn’t feel hungry.

“You’ve got to eat something. It will be good for you. I promise.”

She knew it would, and she hadn’t eaten since this morning. Her cell phone kept buzzing.

“I can’t believe I hit him.”

“He deserved it,” Venom said.

“I don’t believe in violence.”

She looked over toward Venom. “Sometimes violence is necessary. He’s refusing to sign your divorce papers, and he’s still hooking up with the whore. It makes sense, and you were hurt, and he was still chasing you, telling you it meant nothing.”

“Shouldn’t you be taking his side?” she asked.

“It would be a lot easier to take his side if we’d not heard him fucking her,” Venom said. “I can still have his back and not agree with the bullshit stunts he is pulling. What he’s doing and what he had done with Star, I don’t agree with.”

“I’m not wrong to think he’s ... unfair?” she asked.

“Fuck, no. How do you think he would react if the roles were reversed? He would be losing his shit. He would make you suffer.”

Morwenna took a bite out of her meatball sub. “He would.”

If she’d cheated on Bolt, there would be no end to it.

She continued to chew her food, and she couldn’t help but think about what Venom had said.

“This is a good sub.”

“That it is. I love food.”

“Do you think the club would still be happy with me ... you know, feeding them?” she asked.

“Sweetheart, they would be delighted. Trust me, the food is okay, but I am sick of ordering pizza, and it tastes like fucking cardboard.” He wrinkled his nose. “I’m desperate, but I have standards.”

She laughed. “Well, I guess the blog is sorted. I just need to find a place.”

“The first one you were telling me about, I think that might be a good match for you. It’s got one hell of a kitchen, and you left out the pamphlet for it.” He leaned across and pulled down the glove compartment, pulling out the pamphlet of the house she did actually like.

It was an old ranch house, about thirty minutes from town. That was not ideal, but it had a little land, which meant she could finally grow the vegetables she’d been wanting to grow. The ranch had everything she would need, but it wasn’t furnished, which she liked. The cost was reasonable. So far, it was her favorite, but her dad didn’t like how far from town it was. She loved it, and it was a chance to have a fresh start.

“Let me call the agent and see if they’re willing to let me look at it again.”
