Knox: are you finally admitting to what I have been pretty sure of for a while now?
Me: what’s that? And why didn’t you clue me in you knew something was up.
Knox: you’ve had a lot going on. I didn't want to add more to your plate, even though I did.
Me: okay, well just clue me in now then.
Knox: babe, your tits are HUGE! I mean it’s not like you were ever lacking, but the last couple of months. Damn.
Me: well if you had suspicions you should’ve said something, I’ve been freaking out all day on how to tell you.
Knox: you never have to be worried about how to tell me anything, baby. No matter what happens we are going to get through anything. I promise.
And three hours later Knox and I were sitting in an exam room at my new OBGYN’s office. He’s holding my hand as we wait for the bloodwork to come back. Normally they don’t do it while we sit here, but she thought it would give her a good idea of things. She made me do a urine test when I first came in and I’m sure as shit pregnant. Sitting there holding hands with Knox and I am getting more and more nervous. Finally what feels like hours the door opens and the doctor enters.
“So Peyton, we are going to do an ultrasound. Your levels are higher than we would expect and since you’ve said that you haven’t had a period in a few months. This way we can check to see how far along you really are. Does that sound good?”
I nod my head and watch as a technician comes in with the ultrasound machine.
“I’m going to have you lean back in the stirrups and we are going to use the internal ultrasound because we don’t know how far along you are and we do not know if we will be able to pick up anything on an abdominal ultrasound yet.”
I lean back and they begin the exam.
“Alright so you can see here there is one heartbeat, and if you look here, there is another.”
She pauses for a minute and I feel my heart in my throat because for real, twins? That would be my luck, fucking twins on my first pregnancy and on accident.
“Well look what we have here.”
I look up at what she is talking about and see her pointing out another heartbeat, but that can’t be right. Right?
“Is that three? No. No. That can’t be right. Right?” I look over at Knox and he is pale as a ghost and I don’t know what to say, but he’s obviously in shock as well.
“Yep, you guys have three little babies in there. It looks like you are around twelve weeks pregnant. The due date would be March 15, however, with multiples you will probably end up going early. So with all that you will have to come in more frequently for visits because multiple births are a little more high risk and we like to monitor those closely. So I will see you in two to three weeks.”
She handed both Knox and I a set of photos before she told us everything look great with the pregnancy so far and left.
“Wow. That’s just. Wow.” Knox says and he looks at me. I don’t know what he sees on my face, but he puts his hand on my cheek and rubs away tears I didn’t know that I had. “We are going to be okay, baby. I promise. You and I, we are going to be okay.”
“What are we going to tell our parents? My parents are going to freak out, not only am I pregnant, but triplets? When we want to overachieve, we overachieve hard.”
“Listen, you are out of the danger zone, so we can go back to the clubhouse and talk to my parents, then we can call yours. No matter what, we are going to be okay. I know that we are going to be able to handle all this. I can’t wait to meet these sweet angels.” He says as he places his hand over my stomach and leans down to kiss my lips.
With that I get dressed and we head out after making our next appointment in a couple of weeks. I am so nervous about what everyone is going to say when we talk to them, I remember what Sophie said and I know that she won’t say anything to anyone so I reach and grab my phone to send a text to my big sister.
Me: You are never going to believe what in the hell just happened.
Sophie: I have been dying over here. You know I have such little patience and you’ve kept me waiting by my phone like all fucking day. So you are pregnant?
Me: Yep. Knox got me good. Like overachieved good.
Sophie: Eeeekkk!!! No way?!?!?! Like twins? I feel like that is hilarious since you are one yourself. Trust me I’ve been there. It's rough, but to have those little babies in the end is so worth it.
Me: Triplets.
Sophie: NO FUCKING WAY!!! Oh jeez Peyton, when you do something you sure go all out don’t you?
Me: Yeah, I’m a real overachiever.
