He nodded. "As soon as we leave here."

I immediately took another three bites.

Roman laughed harder.

After dinner, he took my hand and led me toward the elevator.

I assumed we were going to the parking garage, so we could get in the Bentley and head to his place for him to make good on his promise.

Instead, the elevator started going up.

I looked at him. "Where are we going?"

He just smiled.

That damn smile.

The elevator kept climbing.

When the doors finally opened, I stepped into a penthouse suite and forgot whatever sarcastic comment I'd been preparing.

The space was enormous, all glass and warm wood and soft lighting, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city. Everything was luxurious without feeling cold, the kind of place that looked like somebody had carefully considered what it should feel like to wake up there.

Roman looked at me.

Not a smirk.

A real smile.

Dimples and everything.

As he walked me through the suite, he finally answered the question I'd been carrying around for a week.

"Your question deserved better than a naked, post-nut conversation on my couch."

I laughed. Even when he was being romantic, he was still Roman.

"And the texts and FaceTime calls after that weren't good enough either." He shook his head. "You deserved more than that."

My laughter faded.

He squeezed my hand. "That question deserved a moment of its own."

My eyes burned.

"I thought you answered my question before dinner."

He smiled.

"I did."

Then he turned toward me.

"Now I have one of my own."

He led me into the bedroom.

I stopped again.
