Chapter 24
Val slid out of bed and silently moved toward the door.
“Where are you going?”
She froze and grinned at the rumbly sound of his voice and walked back to the bed, leaning over Niall, who looked so much healthier after a few weeks’ rest. “I was going to get your meds.”
His arms reached out and grabbed her around the waist and hauled her on top of him as she squealed. “Niall, stop. You’re going to hurt yourself.”
He slapped her ass lightly before tucking his hands under the edge of her underwear and gripped her ass. Desire pooled heavily in her belly and she fought the urge to squirm against him. It had been two weeks since they’d rescued him from the island. He’d been more badly injured than they first thought, his lung punctured and his spleen damaged by the blows he’d taken. Rykov’s body had been escorted back to his home country by Lotus and Hurricane. A service had been held to honour him, which had been a sombre affair with all of them reflecting on the sacrifice he’d made for them. Life was not to be taken for granted and although many of them knew that already, Rykov’s death had driven it home in a cruel and brutal way.
“You’re all the medicine I need.”
She sat up, his tee covering her top half but leaving her legs bare as she kept her weight off his body as best she could. His hands left her ass and pushed her tee up her belly.
“This needs to go.”
Val laughed but drew the tee over her head and tossed it to the floor, leaving her exposed to his hungry gaze.
“Well, I’m pretty sure Dr Decker wouldn’t agree with this.”
“Well then, she’s fired.”
“Niall.”
“Valentina.”
His hands smoothed over her ass in slow circles and her breathing hitched as his thumbs skimmed her pussy when he adjusted his grip.
“You’re not playing fair.”
“I don’t remember promising that when I married you.”
Val glanced at the plain gold band on her ring finger and couldn’t help the grin. “You were fairly out of it when we recited our vows.”
His growl was all the warning she got before he flipped her to her back and settled between her hips. His hard cock pressed against her, his lips on hers as he kissed her until she could hardly think straight.
“God, I love you, woman.”
“Good job, because when my Italian family finds out I got married without telling them or allowing my father to walk me down the aisle, you’re in for it.”
Niall pulled back and looked at her, his blue eyes serious. “Do you regret it?”
She didn’t have to think about that. “God no. All I want is you, Niall. Nothing else matters to me.”
She thought back to two days after they’d arrived home when he’d asked her to marry him. They’d been lying in bed as she’d been cuddled into his side discussing events and he’d confessed how much lighter he felt not having Hansen hanging over his head. How he regretted wasting so much time and energy on a person who didn’t deserve it. Then he’d said he’d never waste a second of the life God granted him again, that he wanted to spend his life with her and whatever life threw his way, he wanted her by his side.
She’d cried at his words and said yes before he could even get his question out. Jack had married them the following day at the pub with all the people they cared about there, except her parents, who’d been invited but didn’t want to travel, because of her father’s heart condition.
Rafe had given Bás a hard time but she could see he was warming to the man she loved and Nix had been there to keep him in line. It had been perfect but the haste meant they hadn’t managed to consummate the marriage yet due to his injuries.
“I love you so much, mo chroí.”
Her thumb rubbed over his lips. “I’ve loved you since before I met you.”
“I’ve loved you since the first letter you wrote me.”
“I can’t believe you kept every single one of them.”
