“Well, instead of the sleepover rule we put a time limit on us. When the threat is over, we go our separate ways as friends with no hard feelings.”

“What if one of us catches feelings?” The question slipped out before she could stop it.

Mark brought her fingertips to his lips and kissed them as he gave her a sexy smirk. “Don’t worry, Savannah, I won’t fall in love with you.”

She stayed silent because she wasn’t concerned about him falling in love with her but her with him. Clearly, he had no inclination or feelings towards her except sexual. Could she do this and keep her heart safe? She didn’t know but she was about to find out because there was no other way. “Okay, good. I need to pack my stuff up then.”

“Leave it. Alex and Blake will do it. Just grab what you need for today.”

Now it was settled she sensed an urgency about him. “Mark, how bad are these people?”

“The worst, doc, the absolute worst.”

How had this happened? Damn Andy!

With her laptop bag and handbag over her shoulder, she went to open her door, but Mark stopped her with a hand on her arm.

“Let me go first.”

Savannah blinked slowly as understanding and reality hit her. Mark opened the door after speaking into a comm unit she hadn’t seen him put in his ear. The door opened and Liam and Alex flanked her on either side as she was rushed to the car, Mitch opening the door for her with a warm smile. He then jumped in the driver’s seat as Mark got in beside her and the car began to move.

A sudden thought hit her as the black Land Rover, with privacy glass and a dashboard that looked like mission control, sped away from her beautiful home, her haven. “Is Andy’s girlfriend and unborn baby safe?” She may hate the bitch, but she’d never want to see her hurt, and never an innocent child

He glanced across at her. “Yes, we had her moved to a safe house this morning.”

“Oh, okay.”

She gazed out of the window as the car pulled into Eidolon HQ and the security gate closed behind them. This was surreal, and yet, as the images of her ex dying and a man with a gun chasing her appeared in her mind, she knew this was her new reality. At least for now.
