I stared at it without embarrassment, my gaze tracking the length of his thick shaft and slight curve of it. When my mouth got even drier, I beckoned him to me. He stood beside the bed and I sat up and placed my hands on his hips.

I looked up at him then, not saying a word but locking my eyes on his. Then I leaned forward and took him into my mouth, moaning at the sensation of having him there again after what felt like forever. Remington didn’t break eye contact either, but he hissed and his eyes narrowed. His hand glided into my hair and gripped it hard.

Wrapping my fingers around the base of him, I moved my hand up to meet my mouth. He hit the back of my throat. I kept looking right at him as I repeated the motion over and over again. His groans started running into one another. His hips rocked, and a red flush spread on his cheeks. His pulse slammed under his jaw.

The next thing I knew, he pushed me off, gentle but firm, shaking his head. He breathed raggedly and shot a piercing glare at the ceiling. “Not like that, baby. Not tonight.”

After taking a minute, he reached for his pants and I knew he was looking for a condom, so I grabbed his hand to get his attention and shook my head. “We don’t need one. As long as you know that you’re clean.”

“I am,” he said quietly. “Clean, I mean. That’s kind of not the only thing it prevents, though.”

“I know, but I, uh, I went to the medical center in town the other day,” I said nervously, giggling at myself when I realized how silly it was to be nervous about this when I was lying stark naked, with my legs spread, in front of him. After I’d just looked right at him while giving him a blowjob and—

“Birdie?” he said my name with a question in his voice. “What did you do at the medical center?”

“I got the implant,” I said shyly. “I, uh, I wanted to be prepared. Just in case you, uh, came back. Or I went there. I’ve never had anything like this before, but I’ve also never had a relationship like ours. I trust you and I don’t want to have to keep thinking about condoms.”

At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect but then a wide grin broke out on his lips. He crawled over me, kissing me deeply and passionately, and positioned himself at my entrance. “God, I love you.”

“Because I made it so we don’t need condoms anymore?” I asked with a hint of laughter in my voice.

He shook his head, brushing his lips over mine as he did. “Right now? Yes, definitely for that too, but mostly because it means that you didn’t lose hope. You didn’t give up on us, and for a minute there, I thought you had.”

“Never,” I said honestly. “In my heart, I held out hope that things would work out. You’re the only man I want, Remington. The only man I’ve ever wanted everything with, so I had to hold out hope. I think that brief separation might’ve killed me without it.”

“Same.” He sank into me, looking into my eyes as our bodies became one.

He felt incredible with nothing between us, so much hotter and more real than ever before. I looked up at him, moving with him and making love to him as he did the same to me. This was it. There were so many things we needed to talk about, but the only thing that mattered right now was that Gracie had been right.

This was the very beginning of our happily ever after and I couldn’t wait to get to live it.

REMINGTON

Early the next morning, Birdie was up and getting ready for yoga class. I glanced at my watch, hoping that Lulu would be here soon. I’d called Declan and asked him and Gracie to stay with her and Cassidy last night, and they had graciously agreed.

After Birdie had climbed out of bed this morning, I’d texted and asked him to send Lulu here when she was ready for the day. Birdie had just gotten out of the shower, but it didn’t take long to dress for her yoga sessions and the only thing she had left to do was brush her hair.

Relief trickled through me when there was a soft knock. Birdie spun to face me. “Are you expecting anyone? I never get visitors this early.”

“As a matter of fact, I am,” I said, striding out of the kitchen where I’d been making coffee. Grinning at her over my shoulder, I opened the door to reveal an equally puzzled Laurene.

Birdie smiled when she saw her but shot me a questioning look even as she crossed the room to give her a quick hug. “This is a wonderful surprise. Good morning, Lulu. Did you sleep well?”

“So well,” she gushed as she hugged the woman she’d been missing so much. “Did Daddy ask you yet?”

“No, I haven’t, which is why you’re here,” I said mischievously, winking at Laurene. I pulled her to my side and glanced down into her eyes. “You remember what I said?”

She nodded, and when we both turned to look expectantly at Birdie, she let out a nervous giggle. Birdie’s blue eyes jumped between us as she took a step back. “Uh, guys? What’s going on?”

“We have a question to ask you,” I said. “Before we get there though, I want you to know that there really is no pressure and you can take as much time as you need to think about it.”

“Will you move in with us when we get back to New York?” Lulu blurted out.

I groaned but then started laughing. “Or you could say it,” I joked, ruffling her hair.

Birdie stood there staring at us with wide eyes and a slack jaw. “I—What?”
