He took my hand and put it over his heart. “You have this. I wouldn’t say it is my biggest organ, but it is the best one.” He slid my hand down his stomach and over his length. “And this. Would not say it the most important one, but holy fuck does it feel like it when it is inside of you.”
I didn’t know if I loved his mouth on me or talking to me. Every word that came out of it was pure, scalding ecstasy and my body and mind loved the way it burned me. “Are you trying to romance me, husband?”
“Is it working?”
I climbed his lap. “Yes.”

Black Pawn takes E4
Kilian
She hadn’t slept all night, not even after I’d done everything in my power to tire her. Fucking her to sleep had not worked. Neither smothering her with affection and questions. Or telling her the stories of my scars—this time she’d even listened intently. For a while, she had pretended to be asleep. But knowing her, doing nothing had bored her to bits, so she’d given up pretty quickly to just stare at me for the rest of the night. Blaming it on our reunion, I had let her and basked under the attention.
Despite the lack of rest and the little she had to eat the day before, she looked fiercely concentrated and determined. There was no fire in her eyes. They were a mirror of pure, cold winter. Unforgiving.
It worried me.
The calm.
She was a storm.
I only wished she rained down on the world, not on herself.
Penelope brushed her hair while I got myself dressed, her golden eyes glued on the arched window framing part of the city—the stare empty and distant, different from before. I’d caught her distanced from reality more than five times in less than twenty-four hours. More than one voice in my head told me something was wrong.
When my lips rested on her temple, a smile returned on her face.
She pushed a few strands of hair behind her ear and turned to me, taking my face in her hands. “Ready?”
“No,” I said, pinching her nose. “I’m still debating tying you to our bed and keeping you there. It feels too early. I just got you back.”
She shook her head. “While I’ve got time and opportunity to stop my father without a war, I will try. I cannot drag my people to the battlefield without knowing that I did everything I could possibly do to stop him before it came to that.”
“Or you can let me deal with it.”
“No.”
“Could have at least pretended to take it into consideration,” I grumbled under my breath and she laughed, rounding her arms around my waist and resting her chin on my chest. “Together then.”
She nodded. “Together.”
“What trouble will you cause today, my missus?”
“I want to go see Jayre.”
“Jayre?” Who the damned hells was Jayre?
“The dragon. Pen said you have him.”
“So it has a name.”
“You knew I’d sent him?”
“The moment I saw him through the skies. Who else would send a dragon my way besides my wife? What is next on your list, love? You’ve done eudemons, so that is well and gone. It has to be good to beat a dragon.”
She reached on her tiptoes and sank her teeth on my neck. “Impeccable old person humour.”
