Isaac beamed. “You’d tuck me in every night?”
Remi booped his nose. “Every. Single. Night.”
“Would you check on me in the mornings, too?”
Remi had to frown at that one. “I’m not sure that I could, darling boy. If it were just waking up at six with you, I’d do it. But that’s three in the morning for me, and I think that I couldn’t be a good Daddy for you in the evenings if my sleep was so disrupted.”
“Oh, right. I forgot about the time zones. Time zones suck.”
“I have some other ways to make sure that you know I’m thinking about you all the time. If you don’t think it’s overstepping, I’d like you to text me every morning. I’d want to hear about your plans for the day and know what you’re eating for breakfast. But of course, if that sounds too intense for you, we can just...” Remi stopped because Isaac was laughing. “OK, what is it?”
“I’d always been curious about what you meant by not being able to do long-distance with a boy because you couldn’t monitor and control everything.”
“Darling boy, if you let me, I’d put a baby monitor in your room and a tracker on your phone. I’m not suggesting that we actually do, I’m just saying that…”
“Yes.”
“Yes? Sorry, what?”
“Yes, I want a baby monitor in my room and a tracker on my phone. I want to text you every morning and tell you about my day.”
Remi’s chest glowed so warmly he thought he would melt. “Baby, come up here.” Remi urged him up until Isaac was straddling his lap and he could pepper his face with kisses. His gorgeous boy. His perfect boy. “That’s really what you want? It’s not too much?”
“Daddy, if you have to be on the other side of the country, I want to know that you’re watching me every second.”
“I would, darling. I would watch you in your sleep. And doing your homework. I would keep the feed on at my desk. But you could turn the monitor off if you want. Everyone needs privacy sometimes.”
“Daddy, do you remember that first day, when you were still sleeping and you told me I could open your suitcase?”
“I do. I didn’t have anything I wanted to keep secret from you.”
“Well, I don’t want to have any secrets from you.”
“Alright, baby. But if I do anything that gets to be too overbearing, you just tell me.”
“It won’t though. Never. But… I still need to talk with you about something.”
He looked nervous, which made Remi feel nervous, too. The first time they’d met, Isaac had said there were things he didn’t want to share if they weren’t starting a long-term relationship, but he thought they’d likely have discussed them by now. All sorts of possibilities sprang to mind, from unlikely kinks to trouble with Isaac’s family to Isaac not wanting to move to Portland.
But he was determined. “Whatever it is, we’ll make it work.”
“It’s a little bit more than making it work.”
“Go on, tell me. It’s probably not as challenging as you think.” Or at least he hoped it wasn’t.
“I want to have kids,” Isaac blurted out. “It’s… I don’t think it’s negotiable for me.”
Remi took a moment to process, but then he grinned. “I would love that.” He could imagine it all ready, their house filled with tiny baby cries, and then little pattering feet, and, he supposed, eventually teenaged angst.
Isaac blinked. “Really? Every time I’ve brought up anything related, you just talk about your nieces and nephews.”
Remi cuddled him close. “I happen to love my nieces and nephews very much. And I’ve also been focused on building our adult and Daddy relationships. To be honest, I didn’t think about it much because I feel like I get to be an uncle and a Daddy in so many parts of my life already, and a lot of littles don’t want to share the attention or have those sorts of responsibilities. But I’m very open to being a father, too.”
Isaac curled up against his chest, hiding his face so that his next words were muffled. “Would it be weird if I carried our babies?”
Wow. Remi paused before answering. He’d been working so hard on thinking of Isaac as a man that he’d actually forgotten that was possible. It was a bit incongruous to think of. It would also make it very, very public that he was dating a transman, which he thought might take some adjustment for him and probably a slew of emotions for Isaac.
But on the flip side… as a gay man in the age play community, he’d resigned himself early on to likely never having children and certainly never having children who shared genetics with him and his partner. And now he could have that. He could have everything.
