Blue rode up front as Road Captain, with Glacier and Juju right behind him. Lurch and I followed Harriet on the back of his bike. The rest of the club fanned out behind us, riding two abreast, Tramp and Rita among them. Mystery brought up the rear as Tail Gunner.
It was fucking cold, but it wasn’t a long ride into town. The roads were clear, no ice, so it was safe enough. And I was never one to turn down a ride with my club.
I wasn’t sure why Glacier made this mandatory when we had the roadhouse, but I assumed he had his reasons. He usually did.
Juju, Harriet, and Rita were pretty giddy about this outing from the way they were grinning and laughing before we left the clubhouse. Fuck, even Glacier looked amused, and that was saying something.
Then again, he’d been different since Juju came into his life.
We rolled into town. It was dead, except for the crowd gathered around the bar at the far end. Lights glowed, and rock music drifted through the air, not loud enough to piss off the locals, but loud enough to catch our attention as we lined our bikes along the road.
Taking off my helmet, I looked up at the brightly lit sign. My eyes widened, and I let out a bark of laughter.
THE S-ASSY SALOON. We Prefer You Come In the Back Door.
“Fuck me,” I muttered, grinning. Whoever owned this place had a hell of a sense of humour.
We got off our bikes. Juju grabbed Harriet and Rita’s hands and dragged them around the side of the building.
I saw another sign on what used to be the front entrance.
Wasn’t Joking!! Use the Back Door.
The brothers chuckled when they saw the sign.
“Do you know who owns the place?” I asked Glacier.
He and Lurch shared an amused look.
I narrowed my eyes, instantly suspicious.
“I do,” Glacier replied as we headed for the back door.
The old, dingy car park had been completely redone with fresh tarmac and bright lighting. It was packed. The bar would be heaving tonight.
I was wondering about fire code violations when I pushed through the door and spotted Samson Sharp, Chief Fire Investigator. That answered that question.
We exchanged a brief nod but didn’t stop to talk. We never did. It was better that way.
Inside, the place was already buzzing. Bouncers were stationed around the room, with one posted by a door marked with a big EXIT sign. They were wearing T-shirts with the bar’s logo over the chest. Local boys who knew what they were doing. Although the Sheriff was here tonight.
Juju, Harriet, and Rita had already taken over a table near the door. My eyes widened when I saw them pull another table over, joining it with Jude’s new woman Raylee.
Glacier and Jude exchanged a look, but neither of them said anything.
I noticed the way the women sat in the middle, effectively creating a barrier between the two groups of men.
The law on one side and outlaw bikers on the other.
Lurch pushed past me, carrying a tray loaded with beers, jugs of margaritas, and glasses.
“There’s another tray waiting at the bar, brother,” he said, giving me a look I couldn’t quite read. “Can you grab it for us?”
That feeling hit again—like I was missing something.
I shrugged it off and turned towards the bar, weaving through a couple of ranchers until I reached the edge.
Three bartenders were working—a man and two women.
